Class 395 Javelin - Opinions

With the current franchise disarray, 'make do and mend' is all they're likely to get until a new long-term franchise is let, in much the same way the extended short franchises on Anglia led to poor maintenance and cleanliness for a while. I generally don't find the interiors bad on 395s at all though, new seat covers, a proper deep clean of the carpets and filters and they should be good to go again.

the 395's are very nice trains.

not sure where they will end up after the franchise ends,but I don't think they will have any problem finding a new home.
Just a shame EMR couldn't nab them for the corby's.they would be perfect.

360's aren't bad either,but they are definitely more "suburban" if you catch my drift.
javelins do feel more suited to long-ish distance travel,than mass transit.
(8 car 360's will be higher capacity,which is a bonus I suppose)

maybe the javelins replace 350's on the WCML euston-stoke/crewe ?? that would be nice.

Well, using single-leaf 140mph trains on commuter work on 110mph lines would be a waste. Plus, it's unlikely a new franchise will want to get rid of them because of how young they are.

I wasn't aware of any plans to replace them?

well it would make sense to have more of them thundering up and down hs1 than ambling around the Kent coast at low speeds as is currently the case.

Honestly, the Class 395's are superb trains. Very quick off the mark and would definitely recommend traveling on one.

Haven't been on one for a couple of years, but my memory of them was it was absolutely fantastic blasting down HS1 all to way to Ashford International - including being really fast off the mark when it stopped at Stratford Int and Ebbsfleet Int - where it changed to 3rd Rail and proceeded to slowly bounce all the way to Canterbury in the manner of a 142 with dodgy suspension. Coming back I got an Electrostar of some sort to Ashford and found it a lot comfier for that part of the network.
