Class 390 window alignment

I'm booking a ticket to Carlisle from Haverfordwest for a job interview and will be taking avanti between crewe and Carlisle.

I am looking to book seat A20, does this seat have any view from the windows?

Many thanks both, given the journey and nerves a window to look out of is so much more preferable.

In the index there is a reference to "Traveller seats" (red), but none are so marked. So, what are traveller seats?

It's next to a luggage stack and the colour key matches limited / no view so I have a feeling it might not have a view. It's facing backwards - is that a factor as well for you, @Anonymous10 ? Unless you're booking an advance rather than a normal ticket with a reservation separately, then you could see if there's a window seat available in one of the unreserved carriages - although as you're boarding at Crewe that might be very difficult as the window seats tend to fill up first.

What we really need is for someone who is on board a 390 right now to walk through and have a look at the seats and post the details up in this thread.

Direction of travel doesn't bother me.

A20 does not show as “limited/no view”

It doesn't. That's a darker green.

I seem to recall that luggage stack and the seat next to it take a window, then that row and the row in front most of the next one, but I'm not on a 390
at the moment so I can't look.

If they're available, 41 and 45 are the best window seats on the train in my view. You definitely want to be on the right northbound for the best views over Shap. Northbound, 20 is on the left. The views on the left aren't awful (eg you can see the only bit where the WCML sees the west coast at Hest Bank) but those on the right are just special on that section in my view.

They were I think priority for members of the old Virgin "Traveller Club". Not sure why they are still featured as that, whoever did it has probably forgotten.

Ah... I was trying to look through a reflection on my screen!!

Not sure Avanti's definition of "good view" is the same as that of the rest of the population, though? There's far fewer dark green squares than I'd consider would be restricted view seats...


Edited: Found this video on YouTube, and some of teh seat numbers are clearly visible on it along with how much window they have:

A20 is fine and a descent view, but A28 with it's half table can be good too, visibility is good past the luggage rack and you can sometimes stretch your feet into it!
Don't go for A21 opposite though. It's against a bulkhead and lacks legroom otherwise under the seat in front
