Issues with lighting preventing 387s calling at Hanwell in darkness have been resolved.

What it says on the tin.

Until today 387s have been prohibited from calling at Hanwell in hours of darkness owing to issues with the station lighting. Those issues have been resolved over Christmas and signed off today.

So Hanwell might start getting a half-decent service rather than an half hourly Heathrow Connect?

An increase would be above requirements of franchise spec so unlikely without some of the proverbial silver crossing GWRs palm. With timescales until Crossrail starting up being so short I think it’s unlilely any changes will happen in short term.

What it does mean is that during disruption the 387s can be used to stop at Hanwell if Connect/Crossrail isn’t running.

Not sure if of any note, but I noticed that the following services was formed of a triple 387 today
16:03 Didcot - Paddington
17:33 Paddington - Didcot (rear unit detaching at Reading)

387164, 387132 & 387161.

Quite a few staff at reading watching the split, I guess it be the first GWR triple 387 in service?

Should make for an interesting transitional period then.
Indeed it was. The first train I expected to take today from Taplow to Goring was cancelled (described on the PA) due to a shortage of drivers. Bolt upright seating aside, I enjoyed the 387s there and back, felt like I was on the ECML. Pictures to follow.

I think one of the pairs broke down earlier in the day (14:07 Paddington - Didcot), replaced by a pair of turbos for the return run, starting late from Reading.

I saw a pair of Class 387's heading out of Reading depot towards Didcot today on this working:

5Z56 1530 Reading Traincare Depot to Didcot Parkway

http://www.realtimetrains.co.uk/train/V20609/2018/01/01/advanced

Presumably this was to replace the pair of turbos.

I think that was the extra service, maybe 8 coaches from Didcot attaching to:
5Z57 1611 Reading Traincare Depot to Reading at Reading?

This was the inbound service for the turbos:

Last week I noticed that 387156 has managed to get turned. Usually the pantograph coach is 2nd from the London end, but this one had it as the 3rd. I'm guessing there is another one turned as well if it happened during delivery or afterwards?

Still better than the 165 3-car units, which seem to be completely random as to which way round they are!

Just out of curiosity, what was it about the station lighting that meant they couldn't stop?

A lot of 4 car trains on GWR now. Was this always the plan or were they to be 8 car trains but they just haven't had the delivery's yet?

Two yet to be delivered (387160 & 174 outstanding). To be used as 4/8/12 cars. Majority of services at moment should be 8 cars.

Yeah probably just rumour. The C2C units too ... The interiors are ready at least !

The whole 360 fleet could come to gn? A Siemens product after all plus 379 coming available

Don't really believe that I'm afraid. The Coastway is designed for three car units and the 387's 110mph capability would be wasted on the stopping services. Could be good for some GN passengers though...

I was told 160 is being kept back in the shed at Bletchley, waiting for 174 to be delivered. It will then partner 174 on its mileage accumulation runs.
