Class 387

Had the chance to finally got on-board the 1837 Gatwick Express 387/2 today from Clapham to East Croydon. Usually it's a 442. But 1st class is in a very odd place. I got on the first door of the 12 car train and had to work my way to coach 8 to find 1st class, very annoying. Nice smell though.

387/2s have First Class in one DMOS per 4 car Unit. So there was no reason to walk to Coach 8.

Seeing as its the same as standard I can't blame you for not noticing it

As you should know by now, a flimsy Piece of Antimacassor should do the job just fine... for Southern!

I'm sure Heathrow Express is looking closely at the GX trains to get ideas on how to improve its own first class offering!

I assume rather fewer business users who would (and do) pay for first class on HEX travel from Gatwick, which begs the question why there's a first class at all. Having such a p*** poor section will just annoy people, whereas I think those who pay silly money on HEX probably actually feel they got something extra for their money.

That's a bit different. I mean people using the airport, not travelling BTN to VIC or vice versa. People who I'd assume are more likely aware of what first class is on the new trains.

There is also a fair bit of Brighton to Gatwick (not as much in first class) using technology GatEx services.

Presumably someone at GTR is monitoring how much a Gatwick Express service the "Southern" platforms at Victoria is currently costing them in terms of lost Oyster / Contactless revenue.

That barrier line may cause all sorts of issues during times of dispution when other services might have to use those platforms or when the Fresh Air carriers depart from other platforms

It's a shame. A number of years ago there were always tickets checks on gatEx services.

Yes, 66 + barriers were on site earlier, never saw the number of the 387 that was taken.

Considering those sat in the seats are generally more mature people or those working on laptops, I'd say most did have the correct ticket

They won't be running 4 cars on test for recovery means in case one fails (the 700s had the same restriction including using 12 car 377s on stand by during initial testing when only one unit could come out). Its part of the 387 testing case.

That means it should be the second unit so more testing can be carried out from Tuesday (with Monday like to be delivery only).

We got used to 387's coming to Beckenham Junction when the 0802 used to be one every single day during 2015. Whilst the 377's are older, It seems people prefer these.

They will eventually as it will all be 700s

As Class2ldn states, all Thameslink services will be 700 by mid 2017, so all services currently running around will see a 700 this year.

Beckenham Junction terminators should stop seeing 700s sometime in 2018 depending on how they do the timetable when the trains go back to the SE franchise. However that is still up in the air at the present.

Now back to the 387s...

There should be an option, though depending on your devices manufacturer it may be called something else. As a work around perhaps you could install a different keyboard (Swype, Google Keyboard etc) which would certainly allow you to turn off autocorrect.

The paths are available every day, but as we discussed last week (or maybe slightly earlier around the 15th) there is no way of knowing what they'll do each day. The GW units ran to Brighton before they ran up the WCML to Crewe, resulting in much speculation.

Checking RTT for Bletchley T.M.D. in the morning should show which paths are activated, this may happen only an hour or so in advance.

Not to mention you have the TL white 387s still moving between Brighton and Bletchley which uses the testing drivers. Two came back today so another two should be leaving tomorrow so unlikely to be testing tomorrow folks.
