No... you don't ever ask that question.
First rule of RUK, don't ask when 700s enter service.

While the 700s have a better acceleration rate, the Desiro City are supposed to be able to go up to 118mph above which the body shells don't need the spec IIRC.
Back on topic, keep your eyes peel on TL route this week.

I thought the first rule was that 442's are always the answer?
People like to find loopholes here, and I found one in some obscure list of rules on the forum*. It says you can't ask when the 700s go into public service in the 700 thread, but it's perfectly acceptable to ask in other threads. In fact, the more unrelated the better.Especially when in the 387 thread...![]()
When will the 700s be entering service...they said a few weeks
If the published information on the 700s is correct, they have a power-to-weight ratio of about 16.3 hp/tonne. That's greater than any non-HS1 trains currently running and their acceleration will probably be compatible with likely paths in between the class 800/801s when they are deployed.
... Think 09 stock but a much bigger/longer train!
Surely a question can't affect a TOC's plans?I told you every time you ask that question the launch get put back a week. wasn't kidding

Isn't there an Electrostar working on the Sutton Loop anyway? Doesn't seem too strange, especially since it is going to Bedford.387112+387121 on 07:40 Sutton to Bedford today. Have they been displaced by a 700 going into traffic?
There have been many more 377s and 387s working on the Sutton line for a while now, especially at weekends.
Rumour has it a 387 is due on the GN any day now and will be out and about over the next few weeks for various tests (dispatch etc.)

Anyone know what a 387/1 was doing just south of Wembley Central today? Didn't get the number but saw it as I was heading back from Euston this eve.
The end to end time is largely irrelevant, but the higher top speed allows a shorter headway for any following train, improving capacity.
Remember it will be raising of minimum speeds that will improve journey times the most. You spend more times at lower speeds than at the 110mph top speed. Aceleration will be better on 377s / 387s compared to 365s which themselves are better than 317s.
Indeed, I'm not disputing that. What I'm saying is end to end journey time has virtually zero impact on capacity - capacity increases (of the ECML as a whole) will come from the higher line speed capability reducing headways for VTEC services following slower GTR services. That's why GTR are likely to put 387s on the Kings Lynn flyers
Will the 387s enter service on the GN before the full Thameslink timetable and if so, what services will they work?
I'm fully aware of those pre-existing diagrams.
But apart from a short period last year, the 07:40 Sutton to Bedford has remained resolutely 319 operated despite spending the rest of the day on the Brighton main line. I had been given to understand that when the 700s started on the BML, then the diagram involving the 07:40 ex Sutton would go over to 387 operation as alluded to in the Southern CWN.
In short, does anyone know why 2*387 appeared on this morning's 07:40 ex Sutton?
This working then goes on to the Brighton line for the rest of the day and was booked 319 apart from two brief interludes last year when 377s were used. Southern Carriage Working Notice shows this train as 387 but today is the first day that I have come across 387s. Southern CWN also shows some Brighton trains as 700. I was simply putting two and two together.......
