Do they have a small button above the gangway doors that can be used to turn them on/off, like on 172s?

But I did not want to lock them out of use. Iffy doors sometime work again after you flick them off and on. If there is no option but to lock them out of use, then you are looking at safety/fire issues. Bizarre.

387 internal doors are way more reliable than 377's, if you lock it and then unlock it, that sometimes resets them.

That was the missing button, the bracket was there, but no button.

 Well, I can only go on what I've seen. I've been on one 387, the doors next to me did not work. So at the moment I'm looking at 100% failure rate,

I don't actually mind the "ironing board" seats, they're fine I think. However obviously for first class they are unsuitable.

I find them unsuitable for any journey, personally. They're just not comfortable. The Turbo seats are OK though.

I'm very confused as to how these are an "upgrade"... ok the train is newer and ooooooooooh fancy WiFi but for an airport train there appears to be LESS/Smaller luggage racks than a 442, worse 1st Class and less comfortable seats (not to spark up the seat argument again... :D )

They do appear to look as if they're just a temporary train, given a red livery and branding, and intended to move on to other more suitable duties in the near future - replaced by a 'proper' airport express train.

I wonder how many 'normals' will think just that?

The conductors' brief omitted several things but this should definitely have been included. The only way to lock gangway doors out of use is by using the t-key switch on the doors themselves. Of course this is rather awkward if they've completely jammed!

There is actually a switch on the 387s, it's under the flap, hidden up inside and is not illuminated. Have a look for it when you get the chance. As it happens I managed to solve a problem with the doors by turning this switch off and on again!

So Roger Ford has stated on Twitter that the GWR is getting 29x new build 387s in addition to the 8 we all know about. Porterbrook will be ordering them shortly.

Also been stated else where that the 8 new build 387 will be complete this month, the first of 20x units ordered for Porterbrook will be started in a month and finished by the end of the year.

Where does leave any cascades of stock from TSGN?
Is the 29 in addition to the 29 from TSGN or instead of?
Or are they instead of taking on some 365s.

So Of the porterbrook order for 20 + options for 20 more, 35 are now spoken for short term.

Recent rumour elsewhere was that GWR would end up with 387s only, and the GN 365s would go somewhere else.

Could the GN routes (not Moorgate) end up with a 377 and 387 fleet, with all 365s going elsewhere?

Well this is all very confusing isn't it

So we now seem to be saying that Porterbrook will be ordering an additional 29 units for GWR on top of their speculative order for 20 although their option for that order was only for an additional 20 so presumably that would require a new order.

I have seen it suggested elsewhere that Bombardier would struggle to build another 29 before the next set of new build regs in 2017.

Is it more likely that GWR are taking the Porterbrook speculative 20 that would only then require an additional 9 or 15 units from the option order depending on whether or not they take the C2C units after their 3 year lease finishes?

According to other more informed people the new regs mean that the order for any units must be started by September this year (don't ask me why). By started it can mean as little as a cab so long as everything is placed and work started, we could see the Electrostar line continue for some time. We already know that the Electrostar order will continue into 2017 as the Porterbrook 20 are to be started next month and finished end of the year and there's more to build.

Ok but if the GWR order is totally additional to the Porterbrook 20 spec order we know 6 are going to C2C where are the other 14 going?

Porterborook have 2x 387 about to be build and another 40 on option. There doesn't need to be another 14 without a home as Porterbrook can just get its 20 plus 9 or 10 (depending on the contract). Bombardier keeps going on about how it needs more work or threatens to close Derby down (despite actually getting work turned away by not wanting UK stock to have UK parts despite its cheap campaign to build British was only a ploy to fool the ill informed) since the original 375 order.

Is that not what I said previously that the GWR order was probably going to come out of the Porterbrook 20 spec and 20 option order?

Do you have some evidence that Bombardier are getting work turned away by not having enough UK content?

Last time I saw a content listing for a 377/6 yes the electrics mainly came from Sweden but overall it seemed to have a reasonable UK content, and presumably they satisfied the Crossrail contract in that respect.

The Voyager 5th car was thrown out due in part to Bombardier specifying non UK parts over UK parts down to costs but still inflating over costs of the vehicles.

They have changed to comply with the newer demands as a result.

You asked where the other 14 are going. At present there is no other 14. All Porterbrook has to do is place an order for 9 more 387s, loan first 6 to c2c (GWR will be fine with its initial 8 this summer) and send them to GWR in 2019 when more wiring will be done. That still gives GWR 31 units in a years time where as originally it was getting the remaining units about that time, before wiring delays we know know too.

So as is frequently the case Class377/5 when someone poses perfectly reasonable questions we get a typically abrasive response from you.

So to clarify we can guess that the new GWR build will be from Porterbrook's speculative and option order but we don't actually know that for certain at this stage.

I don't see a problem with his reply.

Me neither. I'm intrigued by this development though, am to I assume it's a precautionary move against the 387/1s not being released by GTR on schedule?
