A pair of 387/2s were standing at platform 3 at Purley this evening (1723ish) adorned with full GX decals including gigantic "GX" logos on one of the middle coaches of each unit and a horizontal white or silver (I couldn't tell which in the dark) stripe under the windows.

You mean like these from GatEx's twitter?

Thought they had to drop gatwick from the branding as some don't stop at the airport or is that not the case?

I quite like the current set up in that gatwick express benefits both brighton and london

Presumably these won't go to eastbourne in the future

Nope, there will be enough 377s by that time to cover those eastbournes

Can't say I'm impressed by that logo.. The huge one looks ridiculous. But hey, let's all remember GTR have no money, except for when they want to waste it redesigning stuff that doesn't need doing..!!

What, exactly, was wrong with the existing logo?

Ugly logo (I know that's just an opinion) and an odd mix of typefaces. Again, my opinion.

Thinking about it the large "GX" will not be noticed by most passengers standing near the train on a platform. It is just a few marks above and below the windows. Puzzled how part of the "G" does actually make it onto the window glass !.

Although very simple, I find the livery very classy. And I'm not a fan of red, but this rich shade looks very nice !

What do you want, a pig sh**ing a rainbow?!!

The livery is a fresh and minimalistic branding that doesn't hurt the eyes, unlike any of the eyesore of TSGN liveries around at present.

That livery looks quite nice, not too busy. Waiting to see what it is like on the inside ;).

There are already pictures about. 387/1s but with red seats and light blue grabrails and luggage rack trim. Carpet same as 387s and 377s.

Sometimes less is more.

Personally I'm not a fan of it, but then again, I'll probably never use it, as I don't fly anywhere & if I need to go to Gatwick I'll drive.

Does anybody know what the pair were that worked down on the Bletchley to Brighton runs yesterday (29th Jan)? They passed over Selhurst Road bridge just as I was driving home. The North end unit had the new branding, didn't get top see the rear unit in nay detail.

I think they look fine but the font for GX? Don't like that at all.

Is that a logo? If so, what does it mean to most people? Surely a picture of a plane would have been better, alongside Gatwick Express written in full? If you were going for easy recognition?

I personally like that interior, it is to me vastly preferable to any other Electrostar due to the good legroom in the airline seats. But the absence of proper quality (2+1) First Class is odd.

Southern/GE/TL/GTR have utterly 'lost the plot' on first class. The provision is poor, wildly inconsistent (both within the franchise and compared with others), and seemingly designed to alienate first class users to the point that its withdrawal can be 'justified' by stealth.

agree that this is what they are trying to do.

Have said before that the DfT have the ability to specify that first class has to be a certain "standard" but they dont. Using 377/1s - 4s on metro work doesnt help.
..and also that GTR unpper management use 1st class im surprised THEY themselves dont want a better standard.
