I really feel for Welwyn north passengers. I suspect they will be skipped lots and WGC and south will need to get used to all stations.

In the 2018 timetable there are also the half hourly Kings Cross to Royston services calling at Welwyn North, Hitchin & stations to Royston (or vv in the peak direction) - hopefully these services are still 365s !
So Welwyn North gets 4 tph in the peaks, 2 of which are non stop.. WGC gets 2 Thameslinks plus the Moorgate services.

Hopefully an 8 coach 387 can take over the 07:55 Cambridge to Kings cross service shortly - this is currently a 4 coach 321, I think the only 4 coach service towards London in the main part of the morning peak on the GN outers? It would need to use the SDO for the villages.

My interpretation of the consultation document is that Welwyn North is to be served only by one of the 2 tph to Royston, giving it the same 3 tph in the high Peak as now (with the Thameslink slow Cambridges). It does have a number of inconsistencies though, so I might be wrong on this point. A Welwyn North stop means 8 cars, assuming they don't go for 4 cars of SDO.

It's a pity that it looks like they didn't remain in Peterborough during today, as I'm passing through very shortly :D

it was 387110 running this evening.

I boarded at WGC (17:20 departure) and managed to get a seat. On arrival at WGC it was noteceable there were far more people standing than usual thoug most of these got off.

Good points - clear announcements and nice smooth ride - didn't really notice the air pressure change when a VTEC passed us in Welwyn Tunnel. nice to have the arm rests and seat back tables (being put to good use by the chap next to me using a laptop) !

Bad points - those seats are really hard and upright! Not sat on a 387 as long before (previously only done st Pancras to Blackfriars several times) and it was noticeable when I got up.
THe overhead racks are very small - my small rucksack with not much in iti was a tight fit. I would never get my large rucksack on there (which fits OK on the 317s or 365s)
Before the doors opened at Letchworth I would estimate there were about 40 people standing in the 3rd coach (usually about a dozen when it was a 317). though I did spot that there were only 2 people in the standard section befind 1st class in the rear coach. so maybe the position of 1st class is discouraging people from the 3rd coach to move along to the rear coach.

There's a good chance people are thinking the whole coach is first class.

Tornado displays 2C26 being worked with 387106, not 108 as you stated but Tornado could be wrong.

What is Tornado? It seems interesting if it tells you what unit is working the diagram. Is it available to the public or some internal GTR system?

So we have one train running as a 387. Anyone know which the next services will be to change? Curious to know how long before one stops at Oakleigh Park for my journey home at 18:15.

There are some trains from Kings Cross to Welwyn Garden City in the peak hours, that stop at Oakleigh Park.

It's possible the answer is "never". Once there's enough 387s in service they'll move to the Cambridge Express/Kings Lynn service. When the 700 and 717 fleets are in full service, with full Thameslink, the peak time extras out of Kings Cross will be (almost entirely) Class 365.

Where are the (compared to the 377/5 plan, at least ten additional) 387s planned to be utilised?

Ah, didn't read the thread title (for the second time today!).

To replace 321s and 317s on the Cambridge and Peterborough routes (other words, act like the Orient Express to the 700s).

I am aware of that (more specifically to replace the 365s on the top-link Cambridge fasts which cascade down to replace the Class 317/321 fleet), but my question again was, where will the ten additional Electrostars [that are being cascaded from Thameslink] be used?

I thought they were gonna work alongside the existing 387s to boost capacity?

That's my question; on what services will Great Northern's additional 387/1s (29 of them instead of 19 or so 377/5s) be deployed?

Aren't the peak extras to Welwyn going to be 700s off Sevenoaks?
