Should have said this week then rather than this month and last I heard it has been put back till next month.

A pity then, as I would have liked to catch one next week, but I shouldn't have thought that getting the 387s back into service is all-too-urgent.

Saw a pair on test at Cambridge a couple of weeks or so back. My father-in-law asked one of the staff on board when the introduction would be, to which the response was "October"

They better hurry with the new trains as GTR is already starting to get rid of the 313s... :)

Was in the C/Ws for this period showing what diagrams would swap to 387s and when

You mean the draft workings? CWN don't 'becomes' official until about 10 days before so you've assumed they were coming in this month. Certainly to my knowledge the 387s were never expected at this point since before transferral.

No I mean the "May 2016 Timetable Stock Workings Book From 15th May 2016 Until 10th December 2016"

Which showed the first 387 to be in service from the 5th September replacing a 321 with 4 more from the 12th September

Any changes are not guaranteed. There's normally a line in there clearly stating that.

Again expecting a document produced back in Feb to to correct six months later when it's talking about something fluid is foolhardy.

Indeed, and wouldn't it have still been talking about the 377/5s at that point?

Agreed but that was the original plan until they couldn't guarantee enough drivers being passed out on 387s in time so its been out back to next month

and yes back then it was meant to be 377/5s

Back in the day, those 377/5s came off the back of a Southern order and only went to FCC out of necessity. When it was clear these weren't going to go back to Southern in time, along came the order for the /6s and /7s.

I think the plan was very much for these units to return to Southern when FCC/Thameslink were done with them. This just wasn't able to happen as soon as originally planned.

What will probably happen now is the 35 377s currently being used by Thameslink will soon return to Southern, allowing a similar number of 377s to be handed over to Southeastern to help alleviate the stress on their stock. Some of those TL 377s are already used by Southeastern on a PPM basis to cover certain PM Rochester and Ashford services, which only goes to show how desperately they need them.

Sorry to say jamieP, but I believe Class 377/5 is correct here.

You mean with regards to GWR taking on the rest of the Porterbrook units?

No, them going to GN.

Think I'd heard about the extra units last year as well but not confirmed until a few months before going offical.

Can anyone give any updates on how the driver training on the GN is progressing and whether there's any news on when the first 387s will enter service (and on which routes/diagrams)?

Quite a few of us have learned them now,me included. Very nice working air con both in cab and train

There was one of them London 2-4-1 leaflets that had a Electrostar in the GN livery at the tail end of last year on the back page, didnt really think anything of it until all of this happened! xD

It was announced in 2014 the GN was getting Electrostars. Just back then it was the 377/5 and not the 387s so you'd be hard pressed so see a difference.

The 321s already have new homes from January.

Only six of them though, as far as I know - all twelve 317/1s are also transferring to Greater Anglia.

Does LM fancy gaining regaining some Dusty Bins then? Where are the GN 321s moving off to?

I know it's taking it slightly off topic but I'm just wondering why Govia decided to sacrifice the LM Dustys over the GN ones - apart from presumably the lease dates?

The LM numbers of 321s probably fitted better for their destination. If GN had swapped some 321s for 319s they would have ended up with small numbers of both types, not good for maintenance or crew training.

Only six of the 13 321s are going to Greater Anglia, though the remainder certainly adds up.

See above. it would have been a bit wasteful to train the Great Northern drivers and fitters on a microfleet that would have been very temporary.
