On the Ayr line I've never seen more than a 7 coach 380.
I'm pretty sure that might be the limit to fit in some stations.

Believe it’s 7-car for 380s, 8-car for 385s.

8 coach 380s are possible in passenger service, but rarely used. There used to be a departure from Ayr to Glasgow around 6am (1K06 I think) which was 8 coaches. It then split in Glasgow Central IIRC. This was before the Ayrshire Timetable Rewrite.

I think I've seen 8 car stop markers for Class 380s at Prestwick Airport station however I've never seen a class 380 with 8 coaches in service.

Definitely 6s and 7s out in Ayrshire/Inverclyde today, but no 8s.

I think 7 is the maximum 380 formation due to most platforms being no longer.

380 runs max 8 car in passenger service and until recently there was diagramed 8 car services to Ayr from Glasgow. 8 car units fit Paisley Gilmour Street and Ayr platforms 3 and 4. At all other stations on the route Automatic selective door opening (ASDO) locks the relevant number of rear coaches out at shorter platforms.

Maximum 380 formation for assistance purposes is 16coaches ie; 8 car rescuing an 8 car, but maximum of 3 pantographs raised.

6 car 380s also ran on the Cathcart Circle and on one occasion, the Newton line, likely with SDO. 7 would be too long for that. This would be when there is events at Hampden Park.
