I am only speculating about the 334 refit, nothing is set in stone, however it would made sense, also with the 334s due a refit.

Wireless is in the franchise agreement as a costing option for the scottish government to take however its Glasgow QS-Edinburgh so would be the 170s.

Surely, though, standard 350s (perhaps with a different seating arrangement- but that's hardly difficult/expensive) would have been a cheaper option? The sloping front isn't going to do much for aerodynamics, and 350s happily do 100mph. The new design seems to be just a case "being different" for the sake of doing it, not to any real purpose.

See above; HSE stepped in.

The only reason 350/2s got ordered was it would be stupid not to have a common class.

New generation Electrostar designs, whenever they were published, also have a slightly sloping gangway to improve forward visibility.

Nice pics - but why exactly is money being spent on designing *another* class of EMU. Are they somewhat lighter/cheaper/more efficient - if not then I can't see why we another different class is being created when we already have two modern EMU types on the market (Electrostar & Desiro), both of which are quite customisable.

It is a desiro!

I think its fantastic! it looks striking, sleek and modern, its the type of thing that we need to shake off the bland, old and slow our railways have gained over the last few years.

we need more desiro's!

Personally, I think the Class 380 is a brilliant piece of design (mock me if u must). I just cant't wait for the 320s to be cascaded somewhere else and the 334s and 318s to come back up onto the North Clyde Line.

I travel on the Class 320 everyday (Airdrie-Milngavie Express, 0752) and have to say, they are so uncomfortable, new trains i.e. comfortable ones like the 334s and 318s will be welcomed.

I can't see them putting dmus onto a fully electrified line, the 334s and 318s will fit the bill perfectly. (A 220 could be in order though, being diesel/electric and that)

A 220 is diesel.

Many places in the UK where diesel is used under the wires for its whole route.

Incidently I think the 380 looks good too :)

Get a grip. Its a train. They're supposed to get you from A to B. I'm sure if they were supposed to be good looking, they'd ask the enthusiasts to design them.

Last time I checked, people were allowed to have opinions, and people with attitudes like yours tended to get banned fairly quickly.

Without causing a stir, I think you'll find that there are more pressing matters in this world. I find it absolutely pathetic to find people moaning about the look of a train.

And thats my opinion. Am I going to get banned for having one? Would seem rather corrupt if I was.

If there are more pressing matters, why are you moaning about people who dont like it? Surely that makes you pathetic by your own definition.

If you come on with an attitude like that and tell everyone to get a grip, then yes, you may do. It all depends on the mods and admins.

I'm not moaning - I'm just stating the obvious Dan, don't get your brazzier in a twist.

And we'll let the Moderation team decide on my post. After all, the point of a forum is to voice your opinion (unless you live under a Communist regime).

I just like the irony of you calling people pathetic for voicing their own opinions about something, whilst doing the exact thing they are by voicing your own opinion about it :p

Calm down, guys.

Jx^, you're not going to be banned for having an opinion. But you can get banned for constantly fighting. I'd rather not go down that road. So let's keep this civil.

Nope. I'm calling them pathetic for arguing about the look of a unit.

I might start up a topic where I voice my opinion over others voicing opinions. Thats called criticism which some people can't take and the user usually gets banned for muttering 'handbags'.

I liked the look of it and also the interior. The seating arrangements with the 2 seats together rather than the 2 + 2 appealed to me. I travel mostly in the 320's from Balloch each morning and think that this train would serve the route well. It is just unfortunate that it will not be used on it.

The 334's have sockets at some points near the doors, cannot remember where as they are hidden behind seats. These are most likely for cleaning purposes.
