I am considering doing some activities For MSTS set in various parts of Scotland over the past 40 years , I write this as someone who spent 4 /6 weeks every summer between 1968 -1977 in Falkirk , Glasgow & in later years Dumfries.
My knowledge & memory during that period are quite good, but then after the death of my Father & also my Uncle who I stayed with I had a period were I was not in Scotland for about 7 years .
I remember during the 10 Summers I spent I was always on the look out for Class 37s as this was the only diesel I had on my 00 layout at home & always lived in hope of seeing the loco in question which I recall according to Ian Allan book of the time was based at Preston, if my memory serves me right
,but other than seeing the very odd member of the Class on a Cross Border service, 37's North of Carlisle were like Hens teeth .
So you can Imagine my Amazement that when I returned for a holiday to the Highlands in 1984 to see a Class 37 waiting at Stranraer Harbour & another one waiting at Queen St to Take me to Edinburgh , the place was wall to wall with class 37's I know this had something to do with the demise of th 24 & 25's ( I always viewed them as the bread & butter Locos of the Scottish Region) & It was also most likely to do with the impending withdrawal of those Quintessentially Scottish locomotives the Class 26 & Class 27 & not forgetting the 40 either.
So that brings me to the point of this thread could someone please enlighten me as to when the massive transfer of Class 37's to Scottish MPD's took place.
