Class 379 whistles

If you watch the above video (and ignore the cameraguy cracking one off over 379s) some of them sound a steam style whistle in addition to the horn. Could I ask what this is for (it sounds odd for something modern on the mainline to go "peeeeep pweeeep")

It's a depot whistle also fitted in 377/5's.

Not that they all work particularly well, some are a bit wheezy. But they're good for amusing small waving children on platforms.

They're on 378s too so is a common feature to the entire Electrostar family.

Yes, I remember that particular Norbert standing there with his tripod pumping his arm at every passing train. Thankfully I didn't sign Cl379s in May so I wouldn't have been subject to desires.

But yes, as has already been said, the Cl379s have a depot whistle.

I should perhaps point out that there is no clear dividing line between those slating the chap and the chap himself, merely shades of grey.

His "enthusiasm" though is rather amusing. Suppose he's probably harmless though.

Yes. We must be careful not to smear each other with the same brush. As a collective we're often ostracised enough without each other digging it in.

However within any group of people (no matter how dysfunctional) there are bound to be factions and a few nutters. Having been in email contact with this guy (him to me) and met him twice (without realising the first time) I would rather be associated with the idiot who nearly got hit by the NX turbo while trying to phot that kettle.

Its all opinion as to whats sad i think that horse racing is sad but majority of people disagree. Not had chance to listen to it yet as pcs at uni dont have sound. Is my life better having not heard it?

Note that on the 379 video everything he says has been repeated presumably in "post production" by the sounds of it. Surely nobody can repeat exactly the same words as pitch and pace perfect as has been done on that video in reality, even though his comments are rather "over the top" to begin with.

I believe he was actually using a tie-clip mic. I'm not sure if that redeems him in any way.
