The Cl322's were tolerated on the Stansted (please note the spelling) Skytrain because they were limited stop and would only be calling at staffed stations.

But Big Chris is mostly correct. There were also issues about them being non-gangway units which meant that there were staffing requirements when running in multiple due to the airport tunnel.

One went past on WCML yesterday Atherstone heading to Crewe at 1530 ish. Would appreciate any info on its doings, I didn't get an ID as I was on a double Super Vomit set heading south at the time!

Driver training on the mainline starts on 21st Feb.

21&22nd is the date for the DMs and DIs who went to Derby and learnt them there to get used to them on the mainline.

From the 23rd they will be for drivers who have already had the theory training in the classroom.

The training trips will run Monday - Saturday and the units (2 diagrams should run) will start and end at Ilford and both will visit Cambridge.

When you only have a fleet of 30 units, does that justify a cab simulator?

And if it did, do experienced drivers reckon they are much use when converting to another type of traction, or would it be better to get out there as soon as possible on the real thing?

Interested if anyone has an opinion...

We only have a fleet of 12 class 170's but we have a cab simulator for it.

The sims aren't there specifically for traction training, although the Cl379 one is being used as such. There has to be a sim for rules assessments in order to put drivers into specific scenarios and see how they apply the rules, but there has to be a sim that all drivers can use. As there is no common traction across the whole company there has to be sims that cover as many of the different traction cards as possible. Therefore there is a Cl170 sim for rural and mainline drivers and a Cl315 sim for GE and WA drivers.

I can see how a sim would help for traction training, especially where the class of train represented is VERY different from those the drivers are currently familiar with (as the Cl379's are), but they are really just for familiarisation. You can't beat getting your hands on the real thing, and WA drivers won't be expected to "sign" these trains until they've had the practical handling.

Yes - passed Milton Keynes heading towards Northampton at 1345 this afternoon. Knew what they were a mile off, lighting up the knitting like a christmas tree!

Didn't get the number, but running under code 5Z67 back to Crewe.

I've heard it's going to work empty from Ilford CS, do a round on the StanEx and then go back empty to Ilford. Not sure on the timings but I expect it will be off-peak, probably sometime in the evening as the unit is currently in use during the daytime for driver training runs.

So, are we saying the service was caped, or they smoothly brought a 317 up from Liv St, coupled and continued?
