I don’t think New Cross Gate depot is used for anything else. We’ll wait and see but I can’t think of any other purpose, assuming it runs of course.

Unusual move, and possibly a dual voltage unit being dragged for a completely electrified journey (although many of those operating East London line are third rail only)

Presumably class 37s are easier to find that drivers with appropriate traction knowledge
Isn’t it mostly the third rail only 378/1s at New Cross Gate?

Although the /2s can be found at Willesden the entire class is based at New Cross Gate.

Would a more direct route be via the East London line (ELL) and then the stock transfer line at Highbury? Or are locos not allowed onto the ELL? Also I’m aware the stock transfer line is blocked by a wooden block but could this be easily lifted or is it more-or-less permanently out of use?

Class 73s made it down the ELL last year

However does anyone kindly know why a 378 is going to Alstom Widnes for work?.

Does it have a contract for refurbishment of 378s for Arriva rail London, ie are they all being refurbished there, or is it something else, or is it a one off move??

Thank you
Warwickshire.

Very interesting. Seems that runs every 4 weeks. So locos are allowed.
Although no doubt those 73s will be running on the 3rd rail, rather than on diesel.

------

As for the 378 heading to Widnes, maybe a restart of the refurbishment program?

All change at Widnes now 458 has finished. 180 arrived before Xmas and now a 378. Probably paint and / or internal refresh.

Does anyone know the reason for the 378 move to Widnes today?

Did the other repainted 378s go to Widnes? Or were they done somewhere else?
They were done somewhere else. I’m not sure where though unfortunately.

Nearly all of the fleet should be going to Widnes for an interior refresh and paint job.

I understand it will come back in a different livery. Don’t know if anything else is going to happen.
New seats are to be fitted as well

All previous units were completed at ilford. The units will be going there for corrosion, repainting outstanding repairs and gangway overhaul. all seats are completed. other discussions are ongoing in regard to scope.
