Class 377 tray tables

Does anyone else find it peculiar that all the tray tables make an excruciatingly painful noise when pulled up and down?

Has this been looked into. Or just poor design ?

Doesn't help when kids find it funny to repeatedly play with them

Presumably when new they were silent?

Happens on everything. Clearly just haven't been oiled in a while.

This. I hate it when you get kids that won't stop messing around with those tables when the noise echos loudly throughout the carriage every few seconds... It does not help with the material they are made from, as a fair few on other trains are mainly rubber or plastic.

On 377s, the tray tables at the back of the narrower seats have the squeaky problem. The ones at the back of the more comfy seats (with armrests) don't squeak.

That's an irritation that thankfully isn't present on the class 700s.

The tray tables use a plastic block as a pivot point, I can't tell you why some squeak and some do not, might be age, might be a slightly different type of plastic, but one thing's for sure is that oiling them will only make the plastic deteriorate quicker

Another issue not present with the 700s is wifi constantly dropping out [emoji6]

Wifi? That's unheard of round here on our 150s and 158s. Closest to that is the 159 to Waterloo or the IC125 to Paddington...

I hope the comment about 700s was in the spirit of sarcasm - pretty sure there's no public wifi yet, only for maintenance logins...

As for the 377 seat back tables, I know attempts have been made to address the noise and I'd be happy to say that I feel pretty sure that it's much better than it used to be, but the problem does seem to be creeping back in, which may indicate a specific lifespan applying to one component which has been overlooked. Unsure really!

The 379s have had squeaky seat-back tables from new, it really is a horrible noise!

Like seat back tables, I've heard that wifi is supposed to be retrofitted to 700s, although if they were going to have this feature I'm sure they would have left the Siemens factory with it.

They've been making that squeaking noise for as long as I can remember, and I've been travelling on them since they replaced the slammers.
