Travelled on a refurb yesterday I think, and to be honest I still find them a bit underwhelming. The black carpet doesn't match the green seating moquette at all, does it?! I like Southern's external livery very much - though less so when it's obscured by needless bus style 'route branding' on the 313s - but the choice of internal decor leaves something to be desired I feel :|

I think pastel colours always make things look dated, so that goes for Southern or some tube lines (namely the new Victoria Line trains). Aren't the 360s on NXEA also pastel colours? I seem to recall thinking they looked really old, even when the trains were pretty new.

The dark colours on a FCC train seem to me to be a far better choice.

They might be thinking the fact that pastels and greys show up dirt less. Especially how people love to put their muddy shoes on seats (have you seen the state of some of the seating on SN 455s?)

Just take the people who put feet on seats outside and execute them. In front of their family.

I'm not sure any colour can hide dirt and I'd prefer to see it cleaned off. Given how many people at night put their feet on the seats on a FCC train (I walk through to get off at Hatfield at the back of the train, and in many cases it's nearly 50% - which shocked me, but go look yourself at night when people are tired and drunk). Clearly, TOCs must work hard to remove the dirt as the seats always look clean the next day.

Sometimes I wonder why they dont put little ledges under facing seats to try to stop people from getting their shoes on the upholstery.

If not ledges, why not have some fabric that hangs down - that you can flip up with your feet and then put your shoes on. When it flips down, the dirt will be facing the underside of the seat.

Okay, so that would send out the message that it's okay to put feet on seats - but so many people do it, you're never going to stop them doing so. That is unless we issue on the spot penalties, but look at the fuss when that happens from the 'haven't you got anything better to do' brigade that seem to have such a loud voice (when they should be slapped in the face!).

If you take your shoes off then I don't consider it to be a problem - unless you have smelly feet! Likewise, putting your feet up on an old newspaper that is fully open - and then moving before being asked if someone else gets on the train.

Personally, I prefer to sit upright. In fact, I usually sit up or forward (usually on my phone!) and don't even lean back into the seat!

Southern and SouthEastern Electrostars are having advertising panals fitted similar to SWT class 450 desiros. Southern are also putting up tube style route map posters in the vestibules for the first time.

It is interesting that on the 377/1 refresh Southern have not placed a sliding door to segregate First Class so they would be consistant with the 377/4s, the latter of which also have laptop plug ins and magazine holders on the backs of FC seats.

The refesh looks great though.
