That seems right as I seem to recall observing those two diagrams (pairs) were regularly producing pairs of 377/6s when the first 377/6s arrived back in the Winter. As more diagrams came into fruition I guessed these two diagrams above provided nice compact workings that did not stray far from Selhurst where the units could return easily for fixes. So they would be ideal for further newly delivered (5-car) units to bed in.

One of those diagrams was also the last southern 456 diagram.

Another 377 has failed on the WCML this evening blocking the up slow at Cheddington. It was 377202 forming 21:13 milton keynes-croydon. 377705 on 20:39 clapham junction-milton keynes has been terminated at Tring to go and rescue it.

I was on-board that service, holding an advance ticket. According to the guard, when going through a neutral section, the pantograph something something (either dropped, or didn't drop? My sleepiness is affecting my memory) and blew some fuses. I was in the PTSOL and heard the rather loud thunk.

I have to say, very good work from all staff involved. Even when the emergency lighting went out, the guard walked through and kept us informed and reassured. Excellent banter between the two crews too.

Oh, and if anybody here works for London Midland and knows the guard working 2Y26 2054 Birmingham New Street - London Euston (I believe it called additionally at Tring to pick us up) could you tell him I did make the 2345 from CHX to Hastings. Cheeky b'stard told me to run! <D

Seems like the main problems with the 377/7s so far then is the changeover from DC to AC or vice versa. Hopefully (I'm sure it will be, as is the case with most new fleets) just teething problems and will all be fixed soon!

In the last few weeks the new trains have been getting emptier in the evenings, which is understandable with school holidays.

The mornings services however have been leaving people on the platform from Harrow and south. Has something been going on with other cancellations forcing more people onto Southern? Or is it the goldfish effect we're experiencing.

Getting a folding bike or suitcase off is impossible at present and it's running late as it takes an extra minute or 2 per stop to let people on and off.

The services on the West London Line in the am and pm peaks has been absolutely rammed the last two weeks, worse than normal - not sure why as would expect the opposite in the summer - unless there is a Westfield affect in the summer.

I can't see westfield having that much of an issue at 8am.

I can only think that either another service has been cancelled or timetable changed or a bunch of passengers have heard they can now fit on the Southern train post extension and have changed train of choice.

A few weeks ago I could stroll from the seat to the door at KPA. It's returned to scrum time.

Even with a hundred or so people leaving Olympia Beer Festival I still walk on and get a seat in the evening.

Whereas the folk from the beer festival stumble on, before crumpling to a heap on the floor, shouting random imprecations about the decimation of real ale pubs? :D

Following the London Bridge blockade last week, Southern has resumed running to the terminus. One permanent change to the timetable is that the 0830 Redhill to London Bridge (ex-Horsham) is now diverted to Victoria (and is now the 0831, which increases the chances iof connecting from the 0829 FGW arrival from Reading) and is rostered for a 5 car 377, instead of the previous 4.

This morning's first run was by 377703. The first class was barely recognisable as such -no anti-macassars and bemused passengers! The 377/6 and /7 first class really is a shambles - it's completely unclear whether it has been instated or not on any particular journey (the internal dot matrix was blank this morning), and the identical seating throughout makes it worse.

ah well the first class is a shambles like you say. it might aswell not exist. I suppose having to mix the stock to work metro and the WLL services is difficult but you'd have thought the first class section wouldve got more attention.

One of southerns negatives....always has been.

Glad to hear that the 0752 ex Horsham is now a 5 car. I guess this is a permanent measure? I wonder what it does on arrival at Victoria as it shows on real time trains it forms the 0909 to Victoria CHS. Is it booked a 377/6 or 377/7? Many thanks in advance.

This morning the 0752 ex-Horsham was a 377/6, although it was announced as a 4 car train at Redhill. I don't know what's rostered (maybe it's left at either 377/7 or 377/6). The first class caused more confusion this morning as it was in a different position to yesterday's train, and different again from the previous 377/1 or 377/4 sets, and of course with no yellow external stripe either! Several passengers were caught out and told to move by the guard, and some said they couldn't believe such planks, sorry; 'seats', were for first class!

All I'll say, in my opinion, people don't look. Yes there are no Yellow Stripes on the outside or seat covers. But in the middle of the window are stickers which say 1st Class, as you walk through the doors its says 1st Class and if you walk through the internal compartment door it says 1st Class...

The 377 to Brighton that I was on Sunday, in first class (having paid to upgrade) really didn't have much in the way of signs to tell you. Wish I'd taken a photo.

Basically, the seats all had the antimacassars which are clear. Fine when there are empty seats so they're visible.

The windows had NOTHING. The only sticker was the standard yellow triangle about not having a valid ticket - not specifically related to first class. ONE sticker on ONE side of the compartment.

The doors DID have stickers. Four of them (round grey stickers with 1ST) but being quite light grey, you could miss them. I don't defend those who decide to upgrade one bit, as plenty did on our trip home, but will defend those who could genuinely and honestly miss something they're not specifically looking for.

There was also just one sticker that DID say about first class and the chance of prosecution, but it wasn't in a position that I'd have considered sensible. It's a stark contrast to the 365s where there are so many stickers, you can barely see in to the compartment - although I think there are fewer on the refurbished stock. Over the years, First did get rather carried away with stickers on the 365s.

Anyway, I can see the potential for confusion and can't understand why the TOCs don't just make things clearer. Then there's no hassle in coming down hard on people, and no chance of people winning appeals.

I've said elsewhere that I've been on a 317 where there wasn't a single sticker, and some ex LM-321s have also had one or both compartments without stickers, presumably awaiting the fitting of new ones after the old ones were removed, or possibly following a deep clean. That's not acceptable and to me, a train with no stickers and just the seat coverings should be treated as standard class.

Even on the 319s, many antimacassars were missing because they couldn't be attached at the top (no elastic like the 377s) and were just stuffed in, basically being held with a small strip of adhesive along the bottom. And even they only had 1ST in light grey on white.

I've not been on a 7 Series but I have seen on the 6 series the stickers on every passenger window... and on the way into the compartment.

It cost you £5 to upgrade on a Sunday?

I'm sorry but people make that excuse on older 377s even with stickers everywhere and headrest covers. At the end of the day it is your responsibility to check, much as it is to make sure you are on the right train.

The 0752 from Horsham to London Bridge is permanently a 5 car train now according to the PDF here http://www.southernrailway.com/sout...-services-at-london-bridge-after-1-september/

Until December/January then it could change with the final Low Level London Bridge timetable comes into force.

Its not so easy to check on some of the /6 as some have very little signage.

My advice is to double check before sitting in the area of the train. By default on 377s 1st Class will be in a DMOS, so as long as you actually look you won't get caught out..

Yes it could be more clearly marked but it isn't. Even with Yellow stipes outside the train, seat covers and stickets on normal 377s people say they "Didn't realise it was 1st" ... Rather than complaining on a forum write to Southern or to the Commuter Association etc.

I forgot to mention that the service I was on was a 377 on FCC. Can't speak for how first class is marked on Southern operated services.

But it isn't always a case of all trains within a certain class bring the same. FCC has lots of 365s but you can see differences with sticker positioning within the fleet. Maybe some stickers were removed by passengers, which is another factor - and nobody at the depot noticed.

It's far worse with the 321s and 317s and probably within all of the 319s too.

377704 on the 0752 this morning. Makes the commute to work a lot more interesting.

Formed off of 2E02 06.17 Victoria to Horsham (via Dorking) arrives 07.37.

Thanks for that.

Is there still some overnight stabling of 5 car 377's at Horsham over the weekends?
I have seen some in the Wimblehurst Road sidings but that was before all the 377/6 diagrams had started.

I saw a 377 yesterday near Gatwick that was scrolling 'Welcome to Class 377' on the side displays and the front. Presumably saying the same inside.

Why would it want to do that? Does the passenger give a stuff? It's just as silly when the 377s change power on FCC and then sit saying 'Electrostar' for a few minutes. People surely want to know where the train is and is going to?!

Don't be silly! The most important part about all train journey's is that the passengers know which class they're on! And can therefore moan on this forum afterwards, ;)

It's the startup/default for the display screens. Not having the relevant information could mean that it hasn't been set or that there's a fault with the system.
