Guess its all part of the fun waiting to see what turns up then...
We did that all the time when the 175s started working the Marches line. I sure remember crossing fingers and hoping for one at the time!
Mind you, before that in the earlier days of ATW, it was more a case of seeing whether you were lucky and had a 158 or if you were less lucky and had a 150/2. Or, indeed, if you were really unlucky and had an inter-city journey on an ex-First ScotRail 150/2, with it's low-backed 3+2 seating!
Got to say, I'm glad things have moved on significantly from those days. If someone had told me then (around mid-2005) that we would have, in a few years time, 57s and MK2s working select trains up and down the Marches, to then have them replaced eventually by a 67 and DVT, with First Class and a restaurant service, I would have laughed in their face and asked them what they were on! Mind you, if they'd also told me we wouldn't see a 37 on MK2s with ATW after 2006 I'd have no doubt done things differently!
Anywayyyyyyyy, back on topic, and away from my trip down Nostalgia Avenue...
Am I alone in finding the seats on 377/6s and /7s adequate for the job they do? I've heard people moan about them but I was satisfied with them.
377702 was reported out in service on a DC diagram today.

There's a good chance but nothing definite as there's four WCML diagrams and only two 377/7s ready for AC work.

OK, thanks. Would guess that 2O97 might be a favourite for a five-car as that is usually wedged by Harrow & Wealdstone.

Lol no wonder the thing was playing up if it was it's first day out. It actually had an SDO problem at Norbury as it only let me release the front 8 coaches of a 10 car train. Then someone egressed to get out so I ended up leaving Norbury 7 minutes late. By the time I got to Thornton Heath I was asked to Terminate at Selhurst and straight into the Depot, so they must have wanted to take a look at the brand spanking new unit.

No, I have no problem with them either. Not sure I'd want to do a 2-hour full journey on one, but for the sort of length journeys they're usually diagrammed for, I think they're perfectly fine, if a little... odd.
Thanks for the info Class377/5. I travelled on 377703 this evening. At Shepherd's Bush Station the platforms have been extended to 5 cars only, with more work still to do to accommodate 8 cars. Presumably 8 car operations is still a few weeks or months away.

They ride very smoothly, but whoever thought these seats were a good idea needs their head examined.
Also they still have to stop to change power supplies, yet the 378s can do that without stopping?

They can change supply whilst moving as can the /2s aswell, but its a southern rule.

Is this likely to change in future do we think? If the technology is capable, it seems a bit of an anachronism, but I don't really know how much of an impact it has on timetabling...
Southern/govia have this habit of 'covering their arses'.... of being 'over' safe. I think there have a been too many incidents over the years of pantos being knocked off, especially as there is an overbridge just to the south of north pole... (M4????) which has had a few victims and nearly took the panto off the 319 i was driving once!!

LO have lost pans a few times on the move (and Southern have as well once) its sensible.

I've taken a few rides on the new 3777's now, the seats are awfully hard, why they decided this was good I don't understand.
I ended up in first yesterday evening, not knowing it was there but I stayed anyway. Leg room under the tables seems to be increased which is nice.
I did notice that between the last row of seats and the wall there's about a 40cm gap. Don't know if this was design or a mistake, but it let some people stand there when it got busier.
Still not enough to solve capacity issues but eases it slightly. Definitely need to get the 8 car trains running on the MKC line 3 or 4 times a day to really make an impact.
