Do the 365s still even have the 3rd rail equipment (internal and external) installed anyway or was it removed during an overhaul at some time?

I think the internal equipment is still there, but the shoegear was removed long ago.

The DC equipment is largely still there- and still causes problems as parts of it have been removed but not others.

For example, when dropping the pan it reverts to DC mode and so the AWS DC beacon self tests. Issue being that the AWS cancel button in the cab is no longer linked to that beacon so on numerous units the brakes lock on and the AWS needs to be reset. This caused massive problems when we were coasting through Hitchin with pans down a few years back whilst Cambridge junction was re-laid. A few 365s went in, dropped pans on the move, AWS went off, brakes locked on and the train ended up stranded in a dead section. Happened to 3 trains in the first day causing some almighty disruption to the ECML!
