Class 345 7 car sets

Just wondering when the last 7 car 345 was strengthened to 9 as on a resent trip all the ones seen were 9 cars.

The last three (042/056/064) were strengthened to 9-car by the end of November 2022, once through running started, as there was no longer a need to have 7-car units.

As I understand it, the software that the seven carriage and nine carriage sets ran on was completely different, with the former not being compatible with the CBTC signalling used in the new tunnels.

How did 7 car trains work on the stations with platform edge doors, can whatever software that controls the platform doors detect how many coaches a train has?

They didn't stop at any stations with platform edge doors, and indeed couldn't.
