Noticed a few 333s running around the triangle today sporting their unit numbers on the underframe of the PTSO. Does anyone have an idea as to the reason these numbers are being added?

It's likely to be to help maintenance staff in the depot to identify which one they should be doing what to.

Just a continuation of a gradual trend which started, I think, with the introduction of Pendolinos and Voyagers. Doubtless it's more convenient for depot based staff but where it results in no numbers on the cab ends it does make it slightly less convenient for spotters. Not exactly a significant issue.

Like the Anglia 321's had unit numbers on each carriage end, makes it easy for staff to ID unit on depot without having to keep walking to the cab end.
