Basically unit is robbed of every useful part that they can get away with for spares.

I think, more accurately, it's stripped of those things for which the TOC is responsible, rather than the ROSCo, and for which the TOC has further use. I can't think of specifics on these units, but were it a bus, it would be stuff like ticket machine, cash vault, GPS equipment and so on. If the TOC has installed FFCCTV or other systems in its own right, these will be removed if they have reuse value. The other aspect of decommissioning will be draining any fluids etc. that aren't required for the unit to be dragged.

That very much depends on that the contract says. If it's known the unit is going straight for scrap then that's taken into consideration. See for example Northern 142s - pretty much straight from service to the scrapyard, no remedial work.

I expect it's more likely to be removal of standard parts such as TPWS control units, GSMR, OTMR rather than cleaning and debranding units...

As crazy as it seems all the majority of the equipment just goes to the scrap yard with the train including the GSMR etc seeing as each install is for a specific class there's no point taking it out.

Wouldn't surprise me in the slightest. In BR we would rob everything we could off the trains bar the wheels to keep the rest of the fleet going but all part of todays throw away society.

Hardly a throw-away society when there's no future use for anything salvaged from an obsolete fleet. It would be like hoarding a football scores teleprinter or keeping canal towpaths in tip-top order for heavy horses.

Even in BR days, there came a point where there was no sense in keeping spare parts, because the type of stock was about to go extinct. And ironically, decent wheelsets with plenty of meat on them are possibly one of the viable parts of a 1980s train worthy of salvage.

The initial 321s that went straight to scrap were stripped of parts that could be used for dilaps on the subsequent units that were returned to Eversholt for storage. In addition, working equipment that would be useful for corrective maintenance of obsolete systems on the remaining trains in service were stripped for spares - e.g. CCTV equipment and gsmr handsets come to mind. Parts were also stripped for use on other similar fleets on behalf of the RoSCo.
Units going to scrap didn't get dilap work and were not debranded before leaving as it would be a waste if time / money. They did get decommissioned before leaving for scrap - empty fluids, remove CCTV hard drives, remove dets, etc, and received an FTR immediately prior to being dead hauled to to the scrappers.
Units going to storage received dilaps work, debranding, storage prep and an FTR

As far as I was aware the Northern units were off-lease at the end of August. Please do correct me if that info is out of date.

I would expect that units remain on lease until they are redelivered to the RoSCo if only for insurance purposes, with the supply of a redelivery cert formalising the point of redelivery

Further to my comment yesterday, the ex-Northerns are all withdrawn.
Looks like the Renatus units have been back out to play on the Southend Vic line over the last few days.

They may be withdrawn but they won't be off lease until they're redelivered.
They being stripped for spares before redelivery

I was hoping to have one on the 07:00 ex Clacton on Tuesday morning as this was a regular 12 x 321 working but it was 10 x 720, though it was advertised at stations as being 12 cars.

Saw three sets out today during my 90 minutes at Stratford:

321322 and 321320
321309, 321323 and 321319
321302 and 321316

I then also saw 321330 and 321312 going through Romford at about 3.50
