Why does one end have the grey extended much further? I think this is the first class end?

The 317s in this livery do not have the variation

The new abellio branding on the almost fully grey end of the 321 is almost unreadable as it vanishes into the grey!

On 317's the first class is in the middle I think on the ones still in old NX stripes. The 600's are all white with red/blue doors iirc. Also if you look along the length of the train where the silver stripe is at the ends of each coach, on one coach it will be thin and the other thick, so I guess if two trains are together the thin stripe will match up with the thick stripe on the other unit.

I've noticed this too. The NXEA-livered 317s/321s are really starting to look a state now. Would it really kill them to just take the silver vinyls off? At least then they would match the rest of the fleet.

I think the silver ends are painted on- the "dot 2 dot" stripes were vinyl.

Oh, really? I could have sworn the whole lot was vinyl. Isn't that why the standard colour scheme became plain white, because the vinyls were too expensive for NXEA's taste?

Dot to Dot. Another dreadful NX idea. Don't use the Gatwick Express use our mini-bus cos we lost the franchise <(

Always surprising how tatty trains in the Greater Anglia franchise area are and obviously the vast amount of liveries dont help, compared to SWT and Southern stock.

Not at all national express lost east coast and therefore were refused a new NXEA franchise but the DFT took their time so the trains were run to the ground
They painted them plain white as they knew the new ridiculously short but now extended franchise wasn't going to be awarded to them
Abellio have a red livery so paint them red they are enhancing the livery with grey stripes gradually see the white
mk3s
If they didn't rebrand from one in 08 things wouldn't look such a mess now as they rebranded before all trains were in one livery!! Some 321s carried great eastern branding as well to add confusion to the mix

Not sure why national express were allowed c2c sure they do a good job but mixed messages

I'm pretty sure they are vinyls, as they seem to have an edge when you run your finger up against it.

Buying a biro was too expensive for NX. The grey bits were stopped simply because it was deemed unnecessary cost.

The fleet is slowly becoming more uniform, but it is a big fleet so it takes time. And then the next franchise will be awarded to someone else and the whole merry-go-round will start again.

Meanwhile the replacement carriage washer at Colchester is taking a month of Sundays to build.
