There are three listed in the current Combined Volume, albeit one is shown as stored:

31 106 ( stored, EMR Kingsbury )
31 128 ( Nemesis Rail )
31 452 ( Eastern Rail Services - this is the shunter at their Yarmouth carriages place )

Hasn't 31106 been scrapped?

The presumption is that 31106 has been scrapped, it was supposed to be donating parts but to which Group(s) I don't know, the last photo of it on Flickr was on 1st January at EMR Kingsbury and it doesn't appear in a shot taken on 20th May

Hasnt 31128 been used occasionally
for nymr on the whitby section?

31128 has been a regular at NYMR for some time and is there currently

Entirely possible - the data date given for the 2024 Combined Volume is "the start of January"; that 31 106 appears in the book indicates only that it was still registered on that date - the stored status and the location given are certainly very ominous, I agree.

For the OP's purpose, 31 128 may be the best bet - unless it's formally restricted to the Whitby section?

31128 has certainly been active on the main line all over the network within the last few years, I don't believe there's any kind of restriction on it.

31128 has been active on the mainline, along with working on the NYMR, especially paired with 31466

Are there any mainline registered class 31s? If so, are they available for railtour use?
God I would LOVE a 31 railtour, unfortunately though it would need a partner loco so the load would be commercially viable say 33012 or a 20,but unfortunately it's been painted into the whitby corner and seemingly cannot escape, it was advertised for a BLS tour but then they had a think and it just into a 37

Admittedly I am currently not completely sober, but your comment rings very loud (Whitechapel foundry) bells with me...;). A Brush 2 from Liv Street to Norwich via CA, with a 101 DMU trip to Yarmouth and back(?), and the 31 back to the smoke via Ipswich. Keep it simple and Bring it on.....

Thread reopened for @ExRes to post an update.

Thanks @matt

I understand that 31128 was seen being road transported from the North Yorks Moors Railway to Nemesis Burton yesterday, unusual for Charybdis as it normally runs under its own steam (or diesel), hopefully to save track miles rather than a fault

There is currently no mainline access at Grosmont due to bridge repairs so road haulage is the only option.

31128 is announced as a visitor at the Chinnor Gala next month, abd will presumably be able to get there under its own steam diesel.

Yup - saw it from my office window! I remarked to my colleagues that I didn’t know any 31s were still operating. And most of them were too young to know what a Class 31 is.
Nostalgia alert - takes me back to travelling between (boarding) school and home, Shrewsbury to Cambridge, in the early 1980s. 31 + 5 early mk2 coaches from Birmingham to March; then two more changes onto DMUs to reach home.
