Class 319 LNR withdrawal date

Hello everyone. I've heard conflicting reports on when the LNWR 319's will be withdrawn and sent to the cutters torch, some say that they will be withdrawn as the leases expire on June the 30th however i've heard from guards and drivers that they will carry on till september. If anyone could give me insight on what LNWR plan on doing with the 319's that would be greatly appreciated.

I've heard this rumour, but LNR seem to be giving a variety of dates. It's been said in the 730 thread that they're meant to be entering service soon (within 2-3 weeks was stated a few days ago). I don't exactly know how LNR would cope without 319s, considering there always seem to be plenty of 350s at Kings Heath when I pass through, but it's probably best to keep them on until the 730s can replace them.

Yes, I doubt it. 730s will come in (apparently!) in 2-3 weeks so the 319s won’t go until then.

I wouldn't even bet on it then. If as I suspect is the case the intention is to run 6-car 730 sets in place of an 8-car 319, there's going to be a serious overcrowding issue and so they'll end up having to wait until they have enough to run 9s. Sure they're 24m instead of 20 but those 8 car 319 formations get seriously cosy. WMT do seem to learn those lessons but it always seems to take trying first to get them to learn them.

I do wonder if the unreliable date may have some sense behind it, it wouldn’t surprise me if porterbrook wanted the 319s for another project - they don’t seem to want to admit that the 769 was a failure.

They have been sending surplus 319s for scrap fairly recently.

Surely it’d make more sense to directly replace the 319s due to the slower paths, I would’ve thought a 730/0 would stand a better chance in one of those paths than a 110mph 350 path.

I same have heard Second week September via various guards and drivers, ie get 730 reliability in place, however 12 car 350s up the Trent Valley is top priority first, then followed by the 319s in September.

I’m not sure how often a 350 on stopping Tring/Milton Keynes services actually reaches 110mph.

Lease extended until end of September. They’ll be 6 vice 8 - certain trains have been leaving people behind since last December and they haven’t made any changes to cater, still loads of empty space on the wrong trains and units already stabled up when you can’t get on at Euston.

Heard much the same, from various LNWR sources, staff ie will disappear around then, from middle September, ie diagramed to around middle September, no need to panic just yet. 730 reliability and once again especially for the busy August summer holidays alone and the rest 12 350s on the Trent valley is priority. So September is the final month for them.

It’s more would you rather have less trains or knackered old 319s. I’d pick the 319s anyday, the services are “cozy” as it is.

I ask you the same question, would you rather knackered 319s or even more crowded 350s for a few months until the 730s come in? I’m very happy with the 319s if the other option is packed trains.

Yep, this. The 319s are dross and do need to go, but not until enough 730s to replace them are in service. At least that means we don't have another heatingless winter.

Trains such as the 07.50 Tring to Euston and the 18.06 to Bletchley were due to reduce from 8 cars to 4 cars to free up the stock to replace the 319s.

I think there will be a sigh of relief from regular peak users the 319s are staying a bit longer!

That I believe has nothing to do with 319s and is to do with work at Bletchley depot for EWR and will still happen.

I'm starting to highly doubt the September withdrawal date, 012 and 429 were quietly withdrawn and sent for scrapping on monday and tuesday. This leaves 7 units in traffic with LNWR. Highly suspicious considering that one of the suspected withdrawal dates is the 30th of june.

How many diagrams are there? 2x8 and 4 for Snorbens? If that's the case then 7 are enough, they used to be 12 car sets.

The short formings advertised by LNR appear to be 350 operated services if I recall.
