Class 318 - last carriage non-functional?

On a train yesterday, the 10:17 (I think) Milngavie - Motherwell, of the 3-car class 318, the last carriage, the doors wouldn't work, and the only light in the carriage was through the windows. The PIS display was working, but it was like the end carriage just had no power or something.
Anybody know what was wrong with it?

The coach may have been isolated due to a fault or someone being sick (usual problem! ). It could even have been that one of the doors behind the driving cab had to be isolated. Rules state that if this is the case the whole carriage must be isolated. All the doors would be locked and the driver may have switched off the internal coach lights to try to hint to passengers to try the doors in another coach.

Funny that this thread is talking about the need to lock out the carriage if a door behind the drivers cab is not working, and another thread has mentioned the use of crew doors as emergency doors from the passenger compartment, which is the reason for that rule.

Well some units, like 319/320/321/322s, the crew door is not accessable by the passengers, on other units, like 317s, the passengers have no access to the crew door where the door key switch is activated IIRC.

Was this the Class 318 carriage with the toilet? DTSOL
I have seen this on numerous occasions where the external doors are isolated, the lights turned off, and the unit operating in effect as a two car unit
My worst experience of this was on a Lanark - Glasgow service via Hamilton
The previous Motherwell - Glasgow service was late and so everyone at Motherwell attempted to board this
The staff on this incoming service asked the platform staff why so many passengers were trying to board, as it was already full
Ironically the late service arrived just after this Class 318 unit left, and was almost empty

Was this Strathclyder? I was just on it and the non-toilet end carriage had sticky marks on every door where the 'out of use' stickers had recently been. If so, whatever it was can't have been serious.

Had this happen last year, co-incidentally, also on a 318. Somehting tells me it was 'Citizens Network', but can't be sure.

It was the middle of the day and when the train rolled up, people were trying to get into the closed part of the unit despite the fact that the lights were out and the door buttons never lit up (think there may also have been an "out of order" notice stuck there, but can't be sure).

But to finish on a positive note, the 318s are very pretty.

They are damn good trains. The only downside is the annoying 'door opening' sound which, unlike the Junipers, also goes off INSIDE the train.

b) Placing vehicle out of use
You must also place the vehicle out of public use and arrange to
transfer passengers to another vehicle if:
• all doors normally used by the public are defective on one or
both sides of the vehicle (including doors used in an emergency)
• a door normally used by passengers at the leading end of the
first passenger-carrying vehicle is defective
• a door normally used by passengers at the trailing end of the
last passenger-carrying vehicle is defective.
This rule also applies to vehicles either side of the coupling
between two units if there are no gangway connections between
the units

Thats the exact rule so crew doors don't necessarily count even if they are emergency exits

Well some units, like 319/320/321/322s, the crew door is not accessable by the passengers, on other units, like 317s, the passengers have no access to the crew door where the door key switch is activated IIRC

150/2s are the same but its also the case that if a drivers key is in then the passengers can't use the door behind the driver as the buttons won't activate. 150/1s are more securely locked and no one except staff uses the slam door

When the Class 318 units were new the crew door was also available to the public
However, this was later changed, the door controls removed (along with changes to the interconnecting interior door) and I made the mistake once of standing next to that door
