Hello,

Struggling to find any upto date information on Classes 318 and 320.

I have been to Glasgow Central a couple of times recently and haven't seen one.
Didn't try getting down to the Low Levels as I didn't have a ticket to travel from there.

Is this where they hide?

If not where is the best place to see these two classes?

Last time I saw a 318 it was at Central but that was a number of years ago. The 334's were there as well then.

The 334's work the Bathgate route, do they not?
I'd be wanting Queen Street for those?

Thanks

Bodie

Yes Queen St Low Level for 334s as they seem to be exclusively allocated to North Clyde workings.

318/320 now share duties on the Argyle lines and so rarely make an appearance above ground at Central. 314/380 are the normal units you'd find at ground level at Glasgow Central.

Also it's possible to see a 318+320 combination at Central Low Level, if you're lucky.

When I was travelling from central low level today 318/320 combinations were pretty much all I saw! They're as likely to show up as a twin 318 or twin 320, dare I say more common for some reason.

Darn it, I knew those things would be going about under me feet!
Like I said, ticket barriers are in operation, so any chance you can get down there without ticket???

I had enough action on the high levels to keep me going, but cleared most of the stock up there now. Just one 156 and third or so of the 380's needed.

Me thinks, next time I go - I'm going to buy return ticket to nearest station for a few quid.

As 320s operate through Central and Queen Street low level, the best place to go is Hyndland, a few stops away from Glasgow Central or Queen Street low level stations. Return is about £2.00 off peak. You will need to stay there about 3 hours to see everything come round (the Edinburghs and Lanarks take the longest). The only other common point for low level workings is Partick but Hyndland has an island platform so less chance of missing stuff going the other way.
I was in Glasgow a week or two back and the 334s seemed to be excluisively on the Edinburghs, 320s worked alone to Springburn & Airdrie while a mix of 318 & 320 could be found on the Motherwell, Larkhall and Lanark runs. 318/320 combos were fairly common although I did see 318 pairs and a 320 pair.
Ticket wise, the Glasgow Roundabout, £6.30 for a day after ?09:15? gives you plenty of scope for running around Glasgow and also saves you having to negotiate access to platforms at Central and Queen Street.
