Not yet but it's finishing at Ilford tonight. No doubt they'd have to wash off the grafitti anyway. Can't have a dirty train going for scrap can we?
Be nice if they'd do that to some of the trains in service haha, some are absolutely covered in graffiti (not just GA though)

Shame the 317s are going so quickly as of late, guessing the pair I went on (347 and 882 I think) are both gone now?

Slight correction, 317884 went with 317886 today. 317881 went with 317347 yesterday. 317507+317510 haven't worked for a while. I was expecting them to work 5G44 today for movement to Ely tomorrow but that doesn't appear to have run. Perhaps they have held off storing them or maybe they simply failed on Ilford depot.

881 went yesterday with 347.
More than sure after the overnight stay Tuesday 07th June to Wednesday 08th June. It was 884 and 886 to Ely

Could be possible due to Diagrams back up to four as was Tuesday and Wednesday this week, ie increase. Especially as 745104 is out of service.
More 317s are needed. So maybe two more 317s are needed rather than withdrawal.
As the 1453 service from from Cambridge north diagramm within a week has reverted back to a 317.

What dictates which units are withdrawn next? Is it down to what ones are getting close to mileage therefore needing exams or overhauls, or have faults on them?

Both usually high on mileage. Ie type of exam required or fault depends on if it is a serious fault. Or can a 720 replace it.

It's bound to be mileage based, but mileage to what particular exam or overhaul I have no idea.

The refurbished 317 subclasses (/5, /6, /7, /8) were all official.
Oh right. I heard that /6 came under /2 and I wasn’t sure about the others. I know /3 was definitely /1. Personally I think the first number after the class should always be the subclass to avoid confusion.

Maybe. Looking more possible know as only 3 pairs are in service again today. Ie only 6 317s back onto usual. Diagrams plus move to ely as already being activated looking like its running. Interesting to see what happens. Maybe 339 511 overnighted at Cambridge and came straight out of passenger service.
Wait and see what happens in a bit

It looks like you might be right. 317339 and 317511 were at Cambridge last night have not come out today. Ironic that they get dumped the day after working a 600 mile class 720 diagram.

I went on 511 yesterday actually. Looked decent for a 40 year old train

317339 survives for now.
Leaving 317337 317338 317339 317340 317343 317501 317502 317504 317506 317507 317508 317510 still in use.
Only one hasn't been in use since April early on is 317507. Wonder what the score is on that one.

Good that someone had it on its last day.

Yes 317507 came back out today. It looks like it has had some roof repairs. Several patches of new paint.

317343 has a Cricklewood depot sticker on the North end.

343 being readied for the final run?
I suppose that begs the question, which pair will it be? 501 would make sense being the lowest numbered and also the first into stock in Sep 81 and one of the first in service in April 83.

Is there a scheduled Last Day? Remember seeing 343 a couple of months ago with a faded but still visible Great Northern Logo on the side...

A pair on the Stansted Express tonight. Forgot how bad they were until I had to sit on one with the terrible seats! Like sweatboxes too!

Driver or guard made a great announcement apologising for it though! Top marks!

Another set out on Stansted Express this morning along with at least one single 720.

Last night's sets were 501 and 508. Rancid things but the announcements were great!

Two pairs in traffic today, on 1258 and 1328 ex Liv St. The first of the pairs is 338/504.
