I've put together a new gallery of pictures from Saturday's Class 315 Commemorative event. https://paulbigland.zenfolio.com/p126770217
Great to see those pics Paul, thanks for linking - a nice record of the event esp for people like me unable to get there.

Nice to see the interior shots and low baked seats original PEP style. It's a shame that if the NRM do indeed claim the 313 as we are to believe is a commitment, it won't have that original interior layout as displayed on these 315s.

But then a Class 315 is also set to be preserved at the 315 Preservation Society. So we get both ! :D

Folks it's been announced now - on the 315 preservation society Facebook page, that the final agreements have been signed and sales purchase agreements, Exciting stuff! The picture is of 856, whether that is the one for preservation I don't know however. They have said that more info will be released soon.

Forgive my cynicism, but I'll believe it when I see it.

Buying a carriage is one thing; transporting and storing it is another.

A lot of people think the same, it's fair enough to be honest. I'm looking more to the positive side, that they've secured a place for it at the LMMR and have reached an agreement with Eversholt, but as you say things could go wrong at any stage.

Isn't this the second time they have "secured" the unit? What happened to the last one?

This is all rather deja vu. They had an agreement to buy before.

They couldn't take delivery and it was sold by Eversholt to Sims for scrap, after the group had had the "come and get it" notification.

Disappointment for those who went on the tour last weekend after the preservation group sold it as "the last ever 315 to Shenfield"...

853 & 857 is one of them, saw it on 5C90 this morning, not sure about the other

838 & 847 were the 1804 ex Liverpool Street yesterday, I travelled on it throughout.

The other diagram, 1735 ex Liverpool Street, was 345054.

Despite their impending withdrawal, the 315 set formations have changed this week for the first time since the last scrap move. They are now 837 + 856, 838 + 847 and 853 + 857, the last of which took yesterday's Christmas special.

Excellent news that the society has secured 315856 for preservation. Fingers crossed it goes without a hitch this time.

Seconded on the last point. Whilst many have been rather negative about preserving a 315, they have been unglamorous workhorses for 40+ years, and it really is good news to see that a complete unit will at least have a chance of having a future.

Presumably two important men from Lapland (unless they cycled the kiddies between the units at Shenfield), or it would have been another example of the catering-in-the-front-set-only disappointment.

Has now been confirmed that 315856 is to be preserved!

Have the preservation group finally raised enough cashola to move the thing to it's base (wherever in the world that might be)? Have they a plan for it's preservation?

I read it’s going to the Llanelli and Mynydd Mawr Railway, where it will join a small collection of Pacers, and two of the IOW 483s.
