Looking at the Facebook page a single carriage was moved 5 days ago and was seen outside the shed at LMMR. The movement of the others is apparently delayed by weather but there haven't been any further updates since.

Somewhat embarrassingly, the Class 315 Preservation Society's Twitter feed described the first vehicle to move as a driving trailer. You'd have hoped they would know 315s have driving motors.

Well we all had doubts about that company…

Being completely honest I'm just glad to see it being moved to its new home.

I had my doubts that any of the class would escape the cutters torch - even more so with the groups previous failed attempt.

My hopes were raised slightly when ROG moved the unit to its temporary home but again, I didn't get my hopes up for the second move by road (or that it would survive the stay at its "half way" location given its history).

I understand the whole unit hasn't yet been moved, but even one surviving motor coach on exhibit would be good enough for me.

Im sure I am not the only person who had doubts and they've proved me wrong. I wish them all the best in moving the remaining coaches to their new home, and have everything crossed hoping that it doesn't end up rotting away and eventually meeting its fate.

Well we all had doubts about that company…

There's still an element of "wait and see" about this group, but credit where it's due they've got a darn sight further along than I expected!

Must admit I was surprised at the amount of love for what I always considered a fairly unremarkable fleet with a pretty limited operating area, though I suppose that even if only 0.01% of their everyday users were enthusiasts who liked them, that's quite a lot of people compared to say the 144s.

The proposed unloading area at the LMMR is too muddy with concerns that the low-loader will get stuck. The line's usual unloading pad is having trackwork repairs.

Not sure why they've moved it to the LMMR as they've only got plans a couple of miles running line if that.

So it's gonna be getting very crowded there soon.

I am fairly confident they tried everywhere. Really struggling to understand what will happen to this unit other than rot away.

I think the second half of your post explains the thoughts of most of the places they asked about storage...

If they could have demonstrated a realistic and technical plan to move forwards then I'm sure they would have found a home in Essex/London.

It’s been quoted in various places that the unit was donated by Eversholt. Normally that involves a nominal fee for the transfer of ownership.

The issue is one of reality though. It is all very well being saved from the cutters torch, but that is a very long way from being preserved in good condition. An item of rolling stock needs to be kept weatherproof and dry, simply because damp plays havoc with electrics and electronics.

I really do hope they plan for the unit to be supplied with elleccy on a regular basis, otherwise it will turn into a series of rotten mushroom sheds.

This weekend, the Llanelli and Mynydd Mawr Railway are holding their Mixed Traffic Gala, and the railway has sent RailAdvent some images from the first day of the gala.

The weather forecast was set to be dreadful, but thankfully, it turned out to be much drier.

Whilst the day saw the inaugural run of Class 73130 in preservation since it arrived earlier in the year, the day also saw a number of other ‘firsts', including:

• First public run of ex-GWR class 143 143 612 (with thanks to the owners, Vale of Berkeley Railway)
• First public run of ex-MOD railcar AD9117 following its overhaul
• First appearance in preservation of Class 315856.

I have to say, in spite of my scepticism - fair play in finding a home for the unit, and opening it up for galas.

315s wore this livery in the mid 2000s, and the LMMR had repainted this carriage for the 45th anniversary. People can come see it at the open day on Saturday 14th March 2026.
