ISTR that the original order was for 14 class 314 units and that an additional 2 units were then ordered to replace the class 303s lost in the Ibrox and Paisley accidents.
Here is a Mk1 Restaurant with Gresley bogies being shunted at Inverness in April 1968 (from eastbank.org.uk). Not to drag my own thread off-topic, but is it known how many Mk1s in total had Gresley bogies?
Keith Parkin in his book on Mk1s (Atlantic, 1991) says on P.137 that "before the Commonwealth bogie was adopted, unsatisfactory riding was countered by using heavy duty Gresley bogies". No total is given but there are b/w photos of RUs E1926 (in maroon) and E1928 (in blue/grey), the latter dated 1979.
It's a long time ago, but I was involved in the service planning for the Argyle Line opening in 1979 and ISTR that the original order was for 14 class 314 units and that an additional 2 units were then ordered to replace the class 303s lost in the Ibrox and Paisley accidents.
Interesting. I never knew about this. I, no doubt like many others, had always assumed that 16 314s had been part of the Argyle Line proposals from the outset.

Sounds like only a small number had them fitted, but at least one lasted long enough in service to receive Blue/Grey. Interesting either way, cheers for that bit of info.
