It is interesting how they went with quite a high speed engine design. I would have gone with something like a Cummins 6BT if there was room underneath!

Well the modern equivalent of the 6BT in power rating terms is the 4-cylinder ISB4.5 (~150-200hp), and the modern equivalent of the 6BT in terms of 6-cylinder B-series is the ISB6.7 (~250-300hp).

I have personally imagined a Cummins-powered 230 myself, but I recall Vivarail saying that they wanted to use "automotive technology", but meaning van/pickup rather than lorry/bus.
