Class 222 motor scream

I don't know what EMT have done, but many class 222s have suddenly developed very audible motor noise in the last week or two. Walking home tonight, one passed by screaming enough to make a Class 319 proud. In the past I've only ever heard the sound of the diesel engines; now and then one engine would pretend to be a Valenta, but I've never really heard the motor noise before.

Anyone else noticed this?
