They're there, they just don't get used very often as a customer service preference, same as on the 390s (and even the East Coast 225s I believe !).

Oh they're there on the 225s alright. They've been there so long, they all being "Welcome to Intercity"

Heard these on board a meridian for the first time this week!

I heard one of them at Kettering the other day - the person doing the announcements told us about three time the next station stop is Kettering, some other stuff (due to signal failures causing a number of delays) and finally finished as we were stopped in the station. At which point the computer kicked in telling us the next station stop was Kettering and continued to do so as the train pulled away from the platform  Didn't hear it again afterwards.

This will shock you all. Ex-merseyrail 142's even have them!!!! First time I heard it was 'We are now arriving at Liverpool Lime Street, where this train terminates. Thank you for travelling with Merseyrail!' This was at Flixton on a Liverpool bound service. Also heard it at Ashburys on a Rose Hill!

I've never heard announcements on 142s, but I belive that the Pacers are getting refurbished so that they meet standards to run in service past 2020.

That's the only auto announcement I've ever heard on a 142. Both in locations nowhere near Liverpool. I think it was on from merseyrail days and has been triggered accidentally.

Only the Merseyrail ones have it (like the massive destination board), and it only works on Liverpool based services. I've read that it is exceptionally awkward to set up properly as it runs on distance traveled rather than GPS.

Some of the EMT 158s used to be able to do the old Wales and West safety auto announcements - the power has been isolated to the control units now though.
