With reguards to the Class 221 tilting system, & watching them go past work over the weekend, when a 221 is coupled to a 220, does the on-board systems detect that a 220 is coupled to a 221, & isolate the tilting system accordingly, or is it a case of the driver has to make sure that the system is isolated manually?

Well, 221s don't tilt past Plymouth area although I presume the computer will do it when 220+221 are on a tilting section,

The computer over-rides and the entire train becomes standard (ie non-tilt)
Some Class 221s are also non-tilt as the equipment is faulty and/or the driver has not been re-signed for it
I was on a Class 221 a few weeks ago, non-tilt
After leaving Preston asked the Train Manager why the tilt wasn't on
Came back just before Carlisle and advised the driver wasn't passed for tilt!
