I’ve seen another picture that suggests that its two half vinyls over the virgin red and silver. The second coach (as you can sort of see in the pic) is still all silver.

Unless it's been extended they are only on a 12-month lease, I'm surprised Arriva funded much more than a Grand Central sticker.

The XC livery is a vinyl over the original Virgin paint.

As originally planned the XC colours would have been a more grey colour than plum - see the render below from when they were awarded the franchise - with vinyls over the Virgin red ends.

However, somewhere along the line someone messed up and the vinyls were too thin. Therefore there was quite a bit of colour bleed of the original Virgin red through. Consequently XC had to redesign their branding to fit the vinyls that had been ordered to be 'plum' than the originally planned dark grey. This created a new colour which had to be matched for the vinyls to be printed for the 170s and paint for the HSTs.

I don't think I've heard anything more Arriva than the old branding still bleeding through :lol:

I've always felt it a shame that XC never carried on with that version - it always looked a lot smarter than the end result, including the more stylish looking front end of the HST.

I believe that the ex-EMR 180 stock at GC now has three sets of livery: HT interior and blue around the windows, EMR white/purple and number font, and GC logo. Like a visible record of where it’s been over recent years :lol:

There were still Hull Trains Direct signs in the toilet as well when they were with EMR for destinations such as Flamborough

The 180’s could be thrown into service quicker than the 221’s due to lack of staff training being required. Imagine the furore on this very forum if services had been cancelled due to a train being repainted.

Damned if they do, damned if they don’t it would seem.

Is the paint on Voyagers that applied when they were new? As the roofs are still 'Virgin' red I guess it must be so. There seems a good chance that the Voyagers will go for scrap without ever being repainted. But perhaps repainting invalidates a warranty - as was said to be the case with Cl 165/6s.

It has Grand Central Vinyls on the end carriages only, its still virgin silver/red on the middle coaches.
