I just walked right past this & felt like the joker walking through the exploding hospital scene in Batman. A lovely, fitting tribute to their 175 predecessors.

Several fire engines & fire investigator cars on Fairfield St... It's a brand new train... unreal.

Apparently no fire and the "smoke" was actually the activation of the fire suppression on one of the coaches. I've had this happen once before on a 197 when it hit a pheasant at 90mph, which hit something underneath and triggered the fire bottle to go off

It seems the 197s are just 175s with the numbers rearranged and the 5 turned into 9 with a marker pen.

Anyone know if Northern Ireland Railways have had similar trouble with their CAF units (which make up just about the whole train fleet)?

I hear this was confirmed to be a thermal incident, and the company and the fire service did indeed class this as one afterwards.

The upshot of the subsequent 197 removals from service for urgent checks... also discovered bolts on the underframe coming loose on a different 197 set.

Thanks for updating. Initial report stated it was just the fire bottle going off making it look like smoke - I've not read up on it since!

The loose bolts were found prior to 104s incident. No 197s have been removed from service as a result of the Piccadilly incident other than 104.

Can't have been much earlier, as the two reports seemed to appear simultaneously. Any idea how much earlier it was?

The 'bolts issue' on 045 and the need for checks was sent through at 14:45, the 'Thermal event' was reported at 21:51 so a few hours between them.

I saw a video of a 197 with smoke pouring from underneath is on Facebook, but it didn't look like Piccadilly.

It's not the video in the First post of this thread is it?! Thats done the rounds quite widely now and is the only one I've seen.
Certainly nothing been reported of any further 197 fires.
