I got to Preston this morning on 9m52 0852 ex Edinburgh and a class 185 was in platform 6.

Any idea what it was doing? I thought they no longer ventured onto the West Coast route.

TPE no longer run the Blackpool, Windermere or Barrow-in-Furness services, but they still have the Manchester-Glasgow/Edinburgh services, and I think 185s still occasionally run those as a stand-in when an EMU can't be used for whatever reason

I saw elsewhere (Flickr IIRC) that a 185 did an Ardwick - Preston test run after an overhaul; this must be related to that.

It's a Drivers route learning special for the Chat Moss.

Nope and the WCML crews that work to Scotland don't sign 185s.
