I've heard that the Class 175 number unit,175008 had a fire damaged on the 1 carriage while it was on the Holyhead to Cardiff Central services. 175007 and 175101 have also had a fire damaged as well. I was wondering if those 3 units could be repaired or not, however they will be replaced by the new Class 197 Civitys this year.

175007 was repaired as it was only minorly damaged, re entered service, and is now in storage at Landore.

175008 and 101 have been reformed into a good and bad set. 101 being the good set, and is back out in service.

008 is at Alstom Ilford under repair, which may take a while.

Ok that's good. Thanks for the update. And once all of the units are repaired, and after all the Class 197s enter the service, the Class 175s will be completely withdrawn from the services. It is clearly unknown of what will the 27 Class 175s go?

The fire issues of early 2023 are largely all dealt with now, so the discussion on this is closed but plenty of information can be obtained from it here:

All Class 175/0 units and a couple of 175/1s are permanently stood down and you can keep up to date with the withdrawals here:

The 175s have already been largely replaced by 197s, almost completely bar the odd set swap on Llandudno - Manchester and Holyhead - Cardiff, and partially on Cardiff - Manchester, and you can find out their progress here:

175 services that haven't been or aren't scheduled for 197 replacement on the aforementioned routes continue to be operated instead by 67+MK4 sets as detailed here:

And we've had the question of where the 175s are going more times than I've eaten hot dinners, and the truth is no one knows - or if someone does, they don't want to share it - and you can read and join the speculation of their future in this thread here:

:)
