Quick question before I book some tickets. I am travelling beyond Carmarthen from Hereford next week, which I am aware is served by class 175s. What is the seating like on these trains and are there power sockets, and do the airline seats have a fold down table suitable for putting a laptop onto?

Many thanks in advance.

No power sockets at-seat, sorry. All the airline seats have drop-down tables. There are also eight full tables (32 seats) on a 2-car 175/0, and eighteen on a 3-car 175/1 (72 seats).

Thanks, I wasn't too fussed about socket provision, I just considered it a bonus. How much legroom do you get compared to my more usual trains (turbostars)?

I think the passenger comfort level on the 175s is excellent - the best DMUs I have travelled on by far

I've found legroom is very good at both the airline seats and the table seats and the tables are a good size too - there was plenty of room for me and a friend to have our laptops out at the same time

The air con cane be somewhat erratic on occasions it seems to have a cook or freeze only setting at times.
Presume your travelling direct from Hereford? The diagrams with 2 car only can be quite rammed rammed at times but so can the 3 cars ATW try and cycle onto the peaks around Manchester and Cardiff. 0830 ex Piccadily is usually a 3 car and is not heavily loaded c 1050 through Hereford.

Others have covered the provision but I'd also put a word in for them generally not being bad units. Along with some other members I did the all shacks Manchester (around 2000) to Newport (arrive 2359) service last year and didn't feel any the worse for wear leaving it 4 hours later :)

In my experience, it tends to be just one carriage affected when the air-con goes loopy. You could relocate if you found it particularly distracting.

I'm afraid I find 175 seats rather hard and the legroom obstructed by seat supports in a few small areas. But the overall space and atmosphere/ambience on board has struck me as good.

Given the choice of a 175 or a 170 then I'd take a 175 any day.

As you're from Droitwich I'm guessing you may have encountered their cousins the FGW Class 180s at Worcester on occasion. The interior ambience of the 175s is very similar, if that helps.
