I regularly work the class 175s as a guard, on the guards door panels (and the door controls on the drivers desk) there are disused "Obstacle close and lock" buttons.

Does anybody know what they actually did just out of curiosity?

I have asked a few people and the only answers I have got are "I dont know" or "Theyre long disconnected"!

Just curious!

It was a way to force the door to close. It overrides the obstacle detection.

Quite dangerous if something was in the way such as an arm the potential for serious injury is high. Maybe that's why they have been isolated.

I think it was put there only to be used if the door would not close.

That makes sense, probably why they have disconnected it.

Thanks for the reply!
