Class 172 Door Buttons +

Been on the LM 172s all this week commuting to and from Birmingham. I've noticed that unfortunately vandals seem to be targeting their door buttons. On quite a few units the yellow door buttons have been "taken off" leaving the lights and grey circle visible. It's rather annoying after all the investment in these excellent units, that some sad people are nicking door buttons. Any other lines in the UK have this issue? There was never this issue with the old 150s, as they had large yellow surrounds. I've also noticed on 172341, that one of the set of bogies (at end of one of the driving ends) that a rather loud vibration can be heard and slightly felt under the floor. Anyone know why this is?

I have noticed quite a few buttons that have been ripped off — it has to be intentional as I've looked at the buttons and you would need something to prize them off with. On one train, someone must have thought it funny to make all the buttons on one side look as of they were close >< buttons.

The 379s have this door button ''problem'' too. I was on an 8-car 379 a few weeks back and I counted 8 missing buttons (1 in the toilet I checked and the other 7 at the passenger door controls).

I don't think it is vandalism though because other units (except 379/172) with the same kind of door button don't have this problem. The door button I used to alight at London Liverpool Street seemed rather ''flimsy'' to say the least, so it was probably a dodgy batch from the manufacturer (the 172s/379s were built at the same time weren't they?)

The 172s and 379s were built at the same time. I noticed that the Chiltern 168s have the same design and to this day I'm yet to see any of those ripped off. Therefore you could be right, perhaps they're flimsy and fall off.

I to travel on the 172s as you would probably guess from the links I put at the bottom of my posts, they are indeed very good trains so why do some idiots think it's so clever to degrade something good. Perhaps this could be a test for the standard of the fitted CCTV.

Never noticed the actual BUTTONS missing but I've had the contrasting button surrounds fall off the 222s on me a couple of times though. They seem to just twist back on.
