At least one of Southerns Class 170's is looking all sparkly and clean inside, almost looks new again. I assume the fleet is going through a deep clean cycle, it is noticeable.

Thanks Southern

I'm a regular user of them and they do seem to be a bit nicer than usual. Some finally have the first class vinyls and stickers removed from the exterior and interior respectively as well.

I'm confused. I thought the 171/7s retained their First Class section for their peak only use on the Uckfield line.

There is certainly First class on the Uckfield line, and I thought it applied throughout the day.

From Southern's latest Redhill / Oxted News leaflet:

Uckfield line - your train is now being refreshed
We are currently refreshing our fleet of Class 171 Turbostar diesel trains. This is being done inhouse at our Selhurst Train Care depot to ensure that the trains aren’t out of service for any longer than necessary. The Turbostars have been in service now for the past 8 – 10 years and the interiors
had started to become a little tired with constant wear and tear. During the refresh process, each carriage is completely stripped back to a shell,
given a deep clean and refurbish where needed, then new carpets, seat coverings and anti-graffiti panels are installed before finally, the exterior of
the carriage is given a spruce-up by being deepcleaned and repainted where needed. The end result will be the look and feel of a brand-new train.
The refurbishment started on the first Turbostar in May, and the entire fleet of 44 carriages will be finished in March.

'A brand new train'??????

Now that's one heck of an exaggeration! They look better but nothing like a new train!!!
