Class 165/166 (Spare Units)

I’ve seen on Facebook another Turbo this time a GWR unit is having major electrical repairs and it makes me think how many other turbos are now withdrawn for spares chiltern seam to be having a lot of issues with there’s so is it now time to maybe begin the replacement of the turbos

Replacement for the GWR 165/166s?

They are definitely showing their age, and it can't be a good advertisement for leisure railway travel to be operating inter-regional services with 3+2 ex-London cattle cars. Is anything going to replace them any time soon, at least on the Portsmouth-Cardiff route? 2+4 HSTs, perhaps?

The GWR ones have a lease end date in June 2028.

Replacement needs funding, DfT have asked the current operators of Turbos for proposals to replace them (and other fleets) but haven’t committed to any funding as yet to progress into procurement.
