Good evening,

Are there any proposals to replace the 165s and 166s used by Chiltern and GWR?

I'm asking as they're nearly 30 years old and, judging by the state of some of GWR's 165s, may not last for another 10 years.

No

They will (although 165116 didn't seem particularly healthy when I saw it at Reigate level crossing this lunchtime).

I would imagine that they would be behind most if not all of the even older class 15xs (except perhaps 158/159s) in the replacement queue. Indeed the GWR 166s are having a refresh.

They're not going anywhere anytime soon. If anything they're the one's replacing other stock in their cascading.
