Class 158 York to Newcastle

Everyday (not including weekends) there has been northern train services that go from Newcastle to York exm and vice versa. Does anyone have any idea why?

Looks like a 158 and a 150 going from York to Newcastle as 5Z91, then back to York an hour later as 5Z92 and almost immediately back to Newcastle as 5Z93 with the same units. You wouldn't regularly see a 150 in Newcastle either which is a bit odd, but there must be a reason for it.

Are 91's doing the York-Newcastle stopper now? I was watching them cross Croxdale viaduct whilst fishing a couple of weeks back....

I think they are just route learning runs, York drivers sign the route to swap units over from Heaton, but obviously there's no Northern operated passenger services for them to learn on.

No. There was a one-off run for OHLE testing I believe, that was it.

Timed as 80x so a Class 91 set wouldn't keep up with that schedule I would say.

There was a thread with all the details and explanation (OHLE tests) in mid December. The date of Tuesday 17th presumably matches your sighting?

Intercity 225 to Newcastle?

Hello, I've heard there are lots of roumours there is a class 91 with an Intercity 225 set going up to Newcastle on test After this I believe they might be deployed on York - Newcastle shuttles If anyone can confirm/ add to this that would be brilliant Caleb
