Simple question really, which lines do the fleet of Class 155s work on weekdays?
Are there any set diagrams that they work?

Thanks, Sam

In short, no...

They can be found most often on Calder Valley services (both routes) and Harrogate line workings. Huddersfield stoppers often throw one out too.

Right thought there wouldn't be. I'd heard it mentioned that they work on the Harrogate line, though when I've seen Harrogate services at York they have been 144/150s. Do they work the Leeds-Knaresborough service or do they actually end up at York?

I think we had one on Huddersfield - Wakefield at the weekend (so I would be surprised if they didn't put in the odd appearance on weekdays as well)

I see them in multiple with either another 155 or with a 153 at Leeds station - haven't noticed what lines they do

They're more likely there on Saturdays as stock isn't so stretched, but I did see one during the week a few weeks ago, I think it was covering for a sickly pacer but it may have been due to the event (Food and Drink festival) in Huddersfield at the time.

Thanks, Sam

if you want one i would pop to Leeds and hang about. I had one at Woodlesford not that long ago so they can pitch up anywhere. Looking through my pictures i have them at Leeds, Manchester Victoria, Harrogate and York

Although they do appear a lot on the Calder Valley do not count it being a 155, as it is one of the lines that every single one of Northern Rails diesel fleet can appear on.

They used to be regular-ish on Penistone services, but I'm not sure if the crews that cover that route still have traction knowledge of them these days. They're unlikely to head to South Yorkshire much but they may do so on occasion. They'll only turn up in Manchester on Calder Valley services and I doubt they can still work to Blackpool, again due to crews not having them on their cards. Though in theory anyone who signs 153s could sign 155s, there's probably some reason that that isn't the case. Can't help on the Knaresborough to York question, but as they do enter York via the Garforth route I'd have thought York crews (assuming Northern have a staff depot in the city) would sign them.

Regular performers on the Leeds - Knaresborough and Leeds - Halifax - Huddersfield/Man Vic routes, occasional aapearances elsewhere such as Leeds - Sheffield.

Thanks for the advice Rich, I would like to get to Leeds at some point anyway.

I've managed to get a photo of one of the 7 (155341), and that was at Sheffield. https://www.flickr.com/photos/sboothby/13893632764/in/photolist-naJuYu
Was surprised to see one there, at first thought it was a Class 153.

Both the 2 Leeds to Knaresborough diagrams certainly during the week and I'm pretty sure on Saturdays too is a 155&153. A couple of the Man Vic diagrams are 155 worked and the 1652 Leeds to Selby and back is booked one

Both Leeds-Knaresborough diagrams are booked for 155+153 - various Leeds-Manchester Victoria services are also 155s but I haven't quite worked out their diagrams yet!

They still reach Blackpool on the York services occasionally - I saw one at Preston last time I was there a few weeks ago.

Last year, I did 3 days on this service (just over a year ago)
http://www.realtimetrains.co.uk/train/Y32319/2015/09/08/advanced

It produced 155347/346/344 on the consecutive days I did it, before joining up with the ex Goole at Leeds and going off to Neville Hill

I wondered which of the morning services from Huddersfield the 155 did... Thanks for confirming!
Anyone know what 2J02 the one that starts at Marsden is formed of?
Or the morning Goole service?

Almost anything as a result of the Northern Rail Random Unit Generation System ;)

No problem with them working to Blackpool as long as it's a Leeds crew on the service as Blackpool don't sign 155s. The only former FNW depot that signed them was Manchester Victoria.

A Driver who signs 153s doesn't automatically sign 155s and vice versa they're separate entries on the traction card. The 153 has numerous differences from a 155 that warrants its own traction course.

On those days, I think the ex Goole was a 150

The unit from Marsden is usually a 158 when I've seen it, it then goes empty to Castleford before working 2F04 back to Leeds before heading up to Neville Hill

The 155s do appear to have set diagrams. 2 work the Leeds - Knaresborough's, one does the Selby - Huddersfield and 3 work the Calder Valleys - the 1618, 1651 and 1818 ex Leeds are almost always 155s.

All traction types have set diagrams, it's just how well they stick to it.

Settle carlisle have been known to be 155+153 but are typically 158+153 or 2x158, but yeah as others have posted you will see them on routes out of Leeds. Typically calder valley routes via HFX to MCV, BPN or WKF and Sheffield express routes.

The 155s work radiating from Leeds are diagrammed to:-

Bradford Interchange
Manchester Vic via Calder Valley
Selby
Knaresborough and Harrogate
Huddersfield
Wakefield Kirkgate
York (Sundays only)

If you've seen them anywhere else they are not actually diagrammed there.

Agreed - but they turn up on other service on a fairly regular basis. I often see them at York on Harrogate line services on days other than a sunday

I have seen a copy of the diagrams but missed York on Saturdays as well. Although the OP just asked for Mondays to Fridays..

The 0748 MCV-LDS always seems to be a 155.

If you want to avoid the 155s on the Calder valley services (as i do) try to board one of the Blackburn to Manchester Victoria services because I have not seen once 155 doing these services once, not sure if they are cleared for them.

155s are mainly West Yorkshire units I think, they used to be Metro-Train/WYMet red and white. They only run to the Calder Valley from Manchester IIRC. I think it'd be unusual to see one in Oxford Road (might have happened a long time ago?), and very unlikely at Piccadilly. As an aside Blackburn is usually 150 or 156.

I used to see a lot of 155s on the Calder Valley but I haven't as much lately - it's usually one out of 155(+153), 144, or 158(+153). It's never a 142, 150 or 156.

Best bet is Leeds IMO.
