Yep there are 17 original 3 car 158s, as well as a number of hybrid 3 car units operating with Northern and First Great Western. The 159s are all 3 car.

Glad I didnt imagine it then. One of my very earliest railway memories is my Mum taking me for a day out in Skeg, and at sleaford we got on a 158 I remember it as 3 car but wasnt to sure as I was only 4 or 5 at the time.

The Northern 3 car 158s aren't hybrids. They have proper MS centre cars although they are remarshalled from their original sets.

So they are! I could have sworn I'd seen a hybrid set at Leeds. Opticians for me!

Could we use the MTU engine that is coming out of EC's new EMT HST? and some of the IC70 seats could have a nice unit there. (albeit a very silly one)

whats this - pimp my unit or something?

I get a 153 for about 2 minutes in each direction every day and find the ride comfort to be very good!

I liked them when we had them on the Darlo-Boro line. MUCH better than a pacer!

I'd rather have the extra capacity that a 142 offers over the 153, even if the 153 does give a better ride and so on.

Also when did 153s work on that route?
