Class 153 vs. Level Crossing Gate

Who said nothing interesting ever happens on the jolly joint line! If i remember rightly a Harrier came down next to the line in exactly the same area a few years back.

just thought I'd ask you, is it 355 or 374? it's annoying - think we're cursed around here, does god want us to loose all our units? the smashed 158 is still at Brush in Loughborough. I am going on the GCRN right down to Loughborough on Sunday, maybe half of it's still outside. Hopefully not long before that brick returns to service

Oops moment, very surprised to see they still use those gates...

Looks like some silly bugger forgot to open them and the train stayed on track and just happened to stop on the road...

Surely, though, there's interlocking between the gates and the signal(s) protecting them? It shouldn't be possible to pull off the signal if the gates aren't opened for trains and locked in position....

There's a number of crossings without direct signal protection, instead relying on a telephone call to the signalman (and block protection), block indicator repeaters (to indicate the state of the block) or similar to indicate whether it's safe to open the gates to allow road traffic to cross. I can't speak for this crossing, and it does seem unlikely for a crossing on a B-road - particularly where the gates open across the line. However, I believe the accident a few miles closer to Sleaford, just a couple of years ago, was rather similar.

I don't particularly know the crossing involved though, so I wouldn't want to comment too much!

at least this time an accident involving a crossing wasn't to do with some pillock driving over it whilst the lights were flashing :roll:
